stunsworth Posted January 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, I have a problem - not the end of the world, but a problem none the less. Â I'm shooting RAW on my M8. I can see the M8 thumbnails in iView, but when I select the media tab, iView still still shows me the thumbnail - i.e. it doesn't show me the full screen version of the image. I'm assuming this is because this is the only image embedded in the RAW file. Â I asked about this on the iView Media Pro website and the response was to run them through the Adobe DNG convertor selecting a large imbedded Jpeg. I did this and can now see the full screen images in iView. Fantastic you might think, well actually no. Although iView is now 'fixed', C1 LE can't see the RAW files - presumably because they're in what is to it an unknown format. Â Sooo, how do I get iView Media Pro and C1 LE working together properly? Â Thanks

Englander Posted January 21, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 21, 2007 C1 will not deal with any "third party" RAW software or with RAW files modified by other software and that includes inserting keywords before processing the file in C1. http://www.phaseone.com/HOME/Content/Support/Article.aspx?articleid=1527&LanguageID=1&layoutid=SupportSite%20-%20Main  It appears that C1 wants you to use it first and then use iView to deal with the generated TIFFs.  http://www.phaseone.com/HOME/Content/Support/Article.aspx?articleid=1915&LanguageID=1&layoutid=SupportSite%20-%20Main says:  "The typical way of using Capture One in a workflow environment is to import all Raw files into Capture One and then process them into a folder watched by Iview. Iview then creates the preview and catalogs the images in the output folder."  Not elegant and some might say a reason to forego the beauty of C1's conversions in favor of slightly less perfection but greater utility with other raw processors.  Joe
stunsworth Posted January 21, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks Joe, my problem is that I want to catalogue the RAW files in iView and only convert those I want to convert. Isn't software great :-)
Englander Posted January 21, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 21, 2007 It has been said that the DNG preview/recognition problem will be solved for C1 and Aperture when OS X properly deals with DNG, assuming you are on a Mac. Â Right now the best work around that I have found is to use Lightroom (still free!) with the files "referenced" and generating its own previews. After I make selections, I move them to a new folder called "Selects" and open that folder in in C1 or another RAW processor. I can keyword and rename with Photomechanic and C1 Pro will accept that, but it won't recognize the sidecars from Adobe so any work other than sorting will be lost when you go to C1. Any file opened in any other RAW processor such as ACR or RAW Developer or Silky is refused existence by C1. Â Joe
stunsworth Posted January 21, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 21, 2007 Joe, I use a Macbook and an XP desktop. So far I've only used XP for the RAW files because that's where my iVIew catalogue is. Â It's frustrating that C1 seem to have deliberately crippled the software in this way, it's sooo good at the RAW conversion - although a bit slow :-)
