Rather impulsively purchased this E.Leitz LEICA Swing-Out Polarizer FISUMMI MINT- on eBay (end time 02-Jan-11 14:10:26 GMT). It's a clamp-on FISUMMI polarizing filter. I think it's E39 and I've got a Type IV Summicron-M 50mm. Does anyone know if I've pulled a boner here or got a pretty good deal?

Thanks,

If it's a clamp-on it's A42 (the outside diameter of the rim of the lens) not E39 (the OD of the thread on the filter). It'll work fine with any 50mm or longer lens that takes E39 filters, and I seem to remember using mine on a 35mm f/2 Canon lens without any vignetting.

Thanks for that. I feel a little more confident with my button-clicking.

If by Type IV you mean the latest version with the integral lens shade, I don't believe that polarizer will fit because the shade retracts flush with the front of the lens and is larger than 42mm in diameter. If it's the version with the clip-on shade and focus tab, then the pola will fit.
