doublep Posted January 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Living in Tokyo, Japan, I am looking to get some Leica M lenses cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. Can anyone suggest a good place to do so (preferably in Tokyo) ? Thanks for your advice!

hiro Posted January 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2011 Hi, Most used camera stores in Ginza would accept your Leica lenses for repair and maintenance work but the best and safest place would be Leica Shop Ginza where they have a repair service counter upstairs, in the back of the photo gallery. The shop itself is run by Leica AG and the engineers have been all trained by Leica. I have used their service a number of times, including 6-bit coding my lenses, and I like the way they use sophisticated instruments to properly adjust the optics. hiro Posted January 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 3, 2011 Also, no need to say this but if you have the ZM lenses which require CLA, you should send them back to Cosina in Nagano where they are manufactured under Carl Zeiss license. For other manufacturers or old timer lenses with the Leica mounts, you could ask aforementioned camera stores in Ginza, such as Sukiya Camera or Sankyo Camera, where rates are reasonable but they normally send your lens to independent engineers who rely on old school techniques which I think were good in those days but not adequate in today's high resolution digital photography. Another place worth mentioning, and if you live toward Yokohama, is Kanto Camera Service in Kawasaki who do wonders in repair. They fix anything. They are an organization which branched out from Canon some years ago and were the authorized Leica repair shop until Leica opened their own Leica Shop in Ginza a few years ago. They have excellent engineers and tools and they even have an expensive MTF instruments which Leica and Carl Zeiss co-developed to adjust their lenses to precision. Their only drawback is the rates which are rather steep and I would keep KCS as the last resort. Have fun.
JBA Posted January 5, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2011 I can also vouch for the Leica Ginza repair shop. They've fixed two lenses and a wonky MP for me. Lemon in Ginza CLA'd my M6 and also fixed a light leak. They also cleaned a 90 Summicron-R that had oil on the aperture blades. Their prices were quite reasonable.
