mdozier Posted December 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone know if the new 35 'lux screw mount hood will work ok on the previous version 35 'lux? My hood keeps popping of during regular use and I thought the screw mount would make a nice replacement rather than the clip on. I searched but couldn't find a previous thread so my apologies if this has been discussed. Thanks, matt

mdozier Posted December 27, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted December 27, 2010 Ah, thanks. Shame though, a more secure hood would be nice. Thanks again, m
hoppyman Posted December 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 27, 2010 You can find a variety of extremely cheap OEM metal screw in hoods from sellers on eBay
Nick_Yoon Posted December 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 28, 2010 Is yours the 12588? There is also the 12589 which is similar to the '588 but with an additional locking collar. This is what I have on my 35 Lux ASPH (previous version). http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/index.php/Gegenlichtblenden#12588_.26_12589
mdozier Posted December 28, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted December 28, 2010 Thanks to both. I don't have it with me today but based on what I could make out in the photo it looks like the one to the left in the pic. I'll have to check tonight. If it's the 12589 version then are you suggesting the new screw mounted hood will fit? Thanks again, m
Nick_Yoon Posted December 29, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As someone already suggested, I don't think the newest hood fits. The one on the left is the 12588 which doesn't have the locking collar, the 12589 would be much more secure. Is your lens the previous 35 lux "asph" or the older "aspherical"? Both hoods fit on the previous 35 lux asph, but I don't know if the newer hood fits on the older 35 lux aspherical.
Guest cwcheung Posted December 29, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 29, 2010 No. It won't. But you can try the new 12466 hood for your 35Lux. Welcome, dear visitor! mdozier Posted December 29, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted December 29, 2010 Mine is the newer previous version asph 'lux. It looks like the 12466 is oval rather than rectangular. Does the shape mask any of the 35mm field? If not and this one threads on it looks like a pretty good alternative. I typically use the hood without a cap and rely somewhat on the hood for lens protection from bumps and knocks, thus the reason for wanting something a bit more securely attached. Thanks again for the education and information. matt

Thanks again for the education and information. matt I had a conversation at Photokina with Stefan Daniel from Leica, and he told me that the hood of the 35Lux from the Titanium M9 will fit on the 35 Lux with the fiddly hood (the previous version of the 35 Lux asph). I was interested in getting it, but it costs about 300 euro - but I would get it if I lost the fiddly hood though. -------------- Frans
smullink Posted December 30, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 30, 2010 HI, The 12466 hood wil definitely fit the previous lux 35mm ASPH. Leica delivered this hood with the latest M7 Hermes Edition kit (with 35mm lux) in chrome. I am still trying to get a silver version of this hood for my 28mm cron to replace the terrible hood. Yt will fit on the cron 28mm without problem and i haven't seen any problems on film with the 12466 hood on the 28mm cron.
budrichard Posted December 30, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 30, 2010 It appears the Heavystar 46mm WA simple hood is no longer available, probably all purchased by 35mm Lux ASPH owners, I know I purchased one! $359USD was the best I could find for the new hood and they were 'out of stock'. The Heavystar version works fine for less than $10USD for me.-Dick
