pauledell Posted December 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 26, 2010 Henry, I prefer the first version. Nice composition, the cold colors and atmosphere. The blue tint is too pronounced for me and I find the lack of background clarity rather uncharacteristic of your pictures. Paul

biglouis Posted December 26, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Doc They are both very nice pictures. I think I prefer #1 as the shadow area in #2 does not look as authentic as in the first. LouisB
Doc Henry Posted December 26, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted December 26, 2010 Thank you Louis for your nice comment. Paul asked me to remove the blue in the pictures. it intrigued me and I wanted to compare with a photo I took at approximately the same place and same time 4-5.00 pm but it is true a year ago I searched in my photo archives and found a photo taken with Kodak Portra 160 The color of snow is not the same. Keith (M) Posted December 26, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 26, 2010 An interesting series of images Henry and the feedback is also interesting. Of your first two images, I actually prefer No. 2 and I prefer it because it is a stronger, more impressionistic image that really brings home the essence of a cold and bleak scene. Yes, in reality it is too blue, but do we always have to 100% reflect reality? Many people would say not. PS - thanks for the mention!

Michael Geschlecht Posted December 27, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 27, 2010 Hello Henry, On a clear winter's day a greater ammount of ultra-violet reaches the surface of the earth. When reflected by the white surface of the snow it records as blue. The clearer the sky the less ultra-violet absorbed by the atmosphere & the more intense the resultant blue. Best Regards, Michael

The clearer the sky the less ultra-violet absorbed by the atmosphere & the more intense the resultant blue. Best Regards, Michael Paul and Michael thank you for explanations I think that this excess blue is due ,as you said,to reflection of a sky,but i suspected it is increasing slightly in digital photography ! I try to convert the previous picture in black & white and see what happens. Your opinion ? You will notice that there is no blue at all and now snow is very white Merry Christmas Best Henry Edited December 27, 2010 by Doc Henry
Marquinius Posted December 27, 2010 Share #13 Posted December 27, 2010 Henry, So good to see your photos! You must be a happy man with that M9. I like the less blue photo best as I always relate blue with exposure problems.

Thank you dear Marco Yes I have an M9 but I also have an M8 For me the two cameras are similar but I prefer the M8, I do not know why. You have an M8, keep it safe ! Henry,I like the colored version with the less blue the most. I usually like b&w, but in this case colors rule. Paul Paul thank you for watching again and for your comment For Paul and Mark, as we are talking about "snow and always snow", here are another photos taken with M9 (I'll post later the same in M8 and R8) It is another place where snow is also eternal (Chamonix 3000m) We do not see any blue in this photo ! very strange isn't ? The sky is perfectly blue above me with some few clouds in the distance M9 Summicron 28mm Asph pictures uncorrected Your opinion ?
