cheewai_m6 Posted December 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i realise it's digital module R, not modular R. i don't know if this has been suggested or discussed to death before, but i haven't ever seen it talked about. i've noticed there are a lot of R users. i personally don't know much about leica Rs, but i'm guessing that R lenses are every bit as good as the M lenses. to keep the R bodies around, and lenses in use in through the digital, why not put the m9 sensor on a DMR? i know it won't happen because it'll be a big investment of money for development into a product that leica don't make anymore. but as a concept, i think it won't be that difficult to do or cost ALL that much to develop. anyway, it's an idea, does anyone, R or not, think this idea is ok? or is it dumb? Advertisement Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Hi cheewai_m6, Take a look here m9 sensor on a digital modular R . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted December 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 22, 2010 It's been discussed often enough and if you use the Forum advanced search you'll eventually find the threads in question. It can't happen because the film gate on the R8/9 body (like that other 35mm cameras) isn't big enough for the IR filter/cover glass of a full frame sensor. Even if that weren't a problem the M9 sensor wouldn't be used because its microlens array is optimised for short-register M lenses.
