Arrived yesterday and took all my self control not to open it until home from work. Â I do have a question. On the base plate there is a thick plastic covering under which there is a label. Is this to be removed or is it actually designed to protect the bottom of the camera? Â My only lens at the moment is the new 28mm f2.8 Elmarit-M and it is quite compact. I will be adding a 50mm f2 Summicron this afternoon if it is not already sold! Â Now to get the nerve to post a picture on this forum! Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Here in Europe, we also get a certification label stuck underneath it with the various regulatory stuff, equivalent to UL and FCC, also a picture of a waste bin with a cross through it which advises you shouldn't put the M8 in the trash. Â And I removed the plastic - and the ugly regulation sticker - right away. From my regular baseplate and my handgrip baseplate as well. Â The plastic peels off easy, the sticker is a bit of a problem, but not more than most price stickers. Use your nails or a credit card - not a knife. Â Of course if you keep your furniture under covers and have plastic protectors on your car seat and leather luggage then you should keep this thing on too. :) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I intend to use my camera as it was designed, and not with protective plastic on. That is a bit like those plastic covers you can get for sofas, IMO. pelikan1931 Posted January 21, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 21, 2007 the plastic cover on the base plate is designed to protect it from scratches etc, because it is the base plate that is usually the cotact point between the camera and the table etc. it is the easiest way to reduce the height of your camera. personally I thank Leica for putting it there rather than listing it as a la carte option.
