I think that this is a lens which must be judged in context. The speed is relatively unimportant. It is a reportage lens. I we put the M8 at 320 ISO (which is an effective 400ISO) there are few situations where 4.0 would not be sufficient in that application, especially if we consider that handholdability of M camera's in general. The same goes for DOF. In reportage situations that is seldom a consideration. Then we get to the quality. As good as pre-asph is pretty d**n good, especially for the application and certainly a lot better than any competitive zoom lens one could think of.
