The knob that controls the ISO, Meter Mode and Resoluton has popped off when Iifting the camera and lens attached from my camera bag.I know this problem has occurred to other DMR's to date based on what I've read. Has this happened to any DMR users here and does anyone have an idea of how much it'll cost to have repaired? Does it have to be sent to Germany?

Mike -

That's a very comon porblem with DMRs, and most owners of them have had it once. Take a trip to Leica in NJ. They might be able to fix it while you wait, but fix it they will. Years ago it happened to mine and L-NJ handled it. A few weeks ago it happened to Ben's, and they fixed it on the spot. Just check with them so that you do not try to come when they are on the Christmas holidays.

Thanks, Stuart. I'll call Allendale first chance after the Holidays. They may be closed and it's probably the reason why my email and call to them have not yet been replied to. Your reply has eased my anticipation. The last repair to my R9 was over 500 bucks, so my imagination was running rampant. Thanks again.

I sent my R8 and DMR to Leica NJ for service and my imagination was doing similar things. The estimate for repairs to the DMR (refused to turn off, internal battery dead) is $155. I sent the R8 along with the DMR so that they could make certain the R8 was up to DMR specs. The estimate for the R8 is $0.

Mike I brought my R8/DMR in to Leica NJ just a week or so ago. Took about 7 days & cost around $350 to replace the board that the wheel & knob is attached to. Works like new. They also do a complete look over of the R8 & make sure everything is perfect between the DMR & R8. Great folks, Say hello to Carmen for me. She's a dream.

Thanks, Ben. I guess I'll have to get used to the stiff repair costs on this equipment....can't see myself shooting anything else. I have a non-Leica DSLR as a backup body and don't look forward to having to use it instead. :Spoiled I suppose.:)

Mike, given that I'm already into my 4th year with this kit & this is the only thing that has broken, I'd say that's pretty darn good. I have shot thousands of images with this kit and even more film with my 2 other R8's. Hard to beat that track record with this gear. Only thing more reliable are my M2 & M3. I'm sure they will outlive me many lifetimes in the future.
