At this time of year I like to look over the photographs I’ve taken during the past twelve months and revisit them in the digital darkroom. Here are a couple from the beginning of the year converted to black and white. It’s the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth - a much photographed structure. The world doesn’t really need any more pictures of it but I’m not one to let that stop me. They don’t look their best in miniature like this. Nonetheless, I’ll be pleased to know what you think of them.

An excellent pair. The first has lots of impact with its perspective and scale. The second is a nice shot of the boats along with the tower indicating its size. The tower seems to be rather impressive. Both have fine tones, lighting and sharpness.

Of the two I prefer the relative simplicity - elegence even - of #1.

Paul, Stuart, your preference for number one makes perfect sense. There's a lot of differentiated detail in number two which is impressive in colour but doesn't show up so well in black and white. I'm grateful, as always, for your comments.
