dhoelscher Posted January 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all regarding getting the Metz flashes with SCA adapter 3502 working in manual GNC mode ... this works for me. Â The only thing that I just can't figure out is how to set flash exposure compensation on the flash ... I'm drawing blanks here ... Â By the way, the UV/IR 486 filters REALLY really prevent underexposure from the flash (probably because the big IR from the flash makes the camera sensor see more light than it really should) ... Â Thanks, DH Â PS - The model I'm using is Metz 54MZ-4i with SCA 3502 rev 4 ...
Advertisement Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Hi dhoelscher, Take a look here Metz 54Z with SCA 3502 GNC mode Exposure Compensation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pascal_meheut Posted January 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 20, 2007 I have the documentation for the 3502 M5 and it says that exposure compensation when using GNC mode is possible only with the 76 MZ. Maybe too big a flash to use with the M8 :-( Â P.S: no exposure compensation seems to work with my M8/54M4Zi/SCA 3502 M5 neither. If someone finds a trick, let us know... dhoelscher Posted January 20, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Merci, Pascal! Â This is interesting. At the moment, this means that the little Leica (Metz made?) SF24D flash has the advantage that you CAN set exposure compensation in TTL/GNC mode ... Â I sure hope that the rumours of Metz and Leica designing a new flash for the M8 specifically are true !!! (and hurry up please!) Â DH
dhoelscher Posted January 20, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 20, 2007 I have the documentation for the 3502 M5 and it says that exposure compensation when using GNC mode is possible only with the 76 MZ. Â Hey Pascal, Â I was just browsing the Metz.de site, and the table that you get when checking on the recommended SCA adapter for the 76 MZ flash says "not available" with the "guide number control Leica" (whatever that means) ... Â And, when you look at the table for the 54 MZ-4i, it says "available" with the "guide number control Leica." Â I'm not sure what this means ... does this mean that you can't use the 76 MZ in "GNC mode," but yet you CAN use flash exposure compensation ??? Â I'm totally confused ... pascal_meheut Posted January 20, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Yes, I check on their site and this is quite strange. The documentation of the SCA adapter comes in 2 parts: a big one for the M4 version where they do not talk about the 76 MZ at all. And a small supplement for the M5 where it says that when using a 45 CL-4 or a 76 MZ-R in GNC mode, you can use the 2nd reflector, you need to set the GN switch on the adapter to ON, select the TTL mode on the flash. And the last point is that you can use exposure compensation only with the 76 MZ-5.
khanosu Posted January 20, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 20, 2007 You guys are right; unfortunately there is no way to set exposure compensation in GNC mode for the Metz 54-Z/SCA 3502/M8 combo. Â Furrukh
pascal_meheut Posted January 20, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes but with an encoded lens and in A mode, the camera seems to adjust the exposure depending on light. No flash when not needed and fill-in the rest of the time whilst keeping the speed high enough, 1/30sec for the 28mm for instance.
pascal_meheut Posted January 20, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Oups, I just found the menu controlling this where one can set the automatic slow-speed synchronisation of off (1/250 sec always), depending on the lens or to a limit (1/30, 1/8 or 32s)
dhoelscher Posted January 20, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 20, 2007 One other question: Â If you open the little door on the SCA 3502 adapter (where the GN switch is) there's switches that appear to be for exposure compensation ... Â How do we get those switches to function/be recognized ??? (does this documentation say that's impossible? and if so, what are these switches for ?) Â Thanks, Â DH
