Sourcing an M8 in the far east

Hey all,

My first post on the forum. I live in Thailand, but travel a lot around Asia. I'm after an M8 but simply can't find one for love nor money out here. Does anyone know the best dealer to talk to in Thailand or Hong Kong or Singapore? Also given that I travel a lot, where in the world is it cheapest to buy an M8? Peronally I'm thinking it would get any cheaper than the US internet based prices, but I'm interested to hear if anyone thinks there's a cheaper way of buying one, especially taking into account sales tax, shipping etc.

Cheers,

Dan.

Dan, I am in a similar situation.

There are a number of reputable dealers in Hong Kong, just follow the distributors webpage http://www.schmidtelectronics.com/ . It is very recommendable to have the availability of your M8 confirmed before you go to pick it up.

To my experience you should not face any trouble with warranty issues when purchasing in the Far East. Just get an invoice/receipt and the people in Solms should be happy to help you.

Generally the prices vary largely, from dealer to dealer and product to product. For the M8 however I checked with a few recently and the numbers were not attractive.

So I usually purchase from "my" dealer in Hamburg respectively Berlin. Saving the VAT of 19% is presently quite an considerable amount and the delivery costs are not prohibitive.

cheers

my recommendation is Leo's in Vancouver. There is no tax if shipped to another country. I bought mine there and had it shipped to the states. Great deal and great support. I have no affiliation with them, just walked in off the street one day. Much cheaper than asia prices I would imagine based on other electronics prices I am used to seeing there....b

I travel alot across Asia, have have consistently found Tokyo has the cheaper prices for high-end gear, cheaper than KL, which is always cheaper than Sing or HK.

The Volumes consumed in Japan for this type of gear probably equals the whole of Asia. Have a look at the photo i posted for this Leica shop in Shinjuku, Tokyo....

I dealt with Foto Flash but they might put you on the waiting list as the "bugs fixed" version is scheduled to arrive in early February; at RM 17k. Good luck.
