Welcome, Harrie, and nice shots. The X1 is a very capable camera, and looks like you are getting great use out of it. Where in the world are you by the way? I already posted a reply to your M8 question. I'd just add that the main thing is to make sure you enjoy shooting with whatever you are using and make the most of it.

You were hoping for a critique, yes? Here goes...

In #1, the green background is very strong. Could you maybe add a tiny amount of brown to the green to balance it out a bit? In #2, a very good portrait with good composition and a relaxed model, the skin tones bring out the features just right. In #3, the brownish background detracts from the other good colors in the image, but I don't know how you could change that, unless you could maybe increase the contrast of that background and darken it slightly.

Hi Bob,

No worries and I appreciate good critiques (and yours is a good one). In fact, I am not much of a photographer and it is very much trial and error, specially when it comes to colours, contrast etc so your help is welcomed.

One very bad thing though (and I am not sure I am can forgive you) : The portrait picture which you rate so good was taken by ..... my wife !!!!! :p Now how am I going to repair my ego from that ??

Harrie,

Welcome to the forum. This is a fine series. The first shot's color seems a bit over-saturated and unnatural and you might consider cropping the very top of the picture to lose the stray branch in the middle, but everything else is excellent.

Your portrait is great in every way (thanks to your wife).:)

The third is also very nice. Keep posting your fine shots as we will be looking forward to them.

Harrie, Welcome Aboard. I like the lush setting in the first. You should give the X1 to your wife.:D You can then get yourself either the X1 or an M8. Then you can out shooting together. I do it a lot with my wife and it's always more fun with her.

Hi Ben,

No wonder you are a Leica Ambassador! in fact your idea is great since I am actually planning to pick up a mint M8.2 but would feel very bad missing thr X1 (read my post in the M8 forum). And my wife is very happy with all your 'great' comments so she's really supporting me. :)

Harry,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your ego but the best shot is no. 2! Where do you live? It looks like Thailand or Indonesia?

Best regards

Ernstblofeld

Hi Ernst, I am living in Bangkok. The picture was shot in Mae Hong Son, northern Thailand.

Harrie,

Welcome to the forum. A very nice series presented. I look forward to seeing more of your work, and your wife's. I support Ben's suggestion to provide your wife with the X1. My wife used my D-Lux 4 a few times (loved it) and now accompanies me most of the time.

Best regards,

Robert
