I tried to find the filters on ebay and several providers. No luck. At ebay there should be some - does anybody know what to search for? I tried 37 and 39 mm, with and without the IR specification...

Here you go :)eBay Store - Akkus Batterien Ladegeräte: günstig batterie günstige Ladegeräte, Kamcorderakkus camcorderakku, pda-akkus rc-akkus sub-c zelle and search for 486 in the store.

All correspondence is in german so unless you're fluent you have to use google language tools to translate. As far as I can tell payment is by bank transfer or cash by registered post. Although they say on their eBay page they accept PayPal they don't supply sufficient information to complete the payment that way. Instead you have to contact them and I suspect they'll ask for you to pay their PayPal fees.

Immediately after purchasing 486 filters I received an email in german asking me to pay using their automated system for which they gave a web address. When you do this it issues a reference number which you must use on all (bank or written) correspondence.

Once they received payment they delivered very fast - there's a large selection of sizes available.

The other place I've obtained filters from is Willkommen bei Foto Huppert and I'm told they will correspond in english. Some that I wanted from them were on back order.

Some search terms to use on ebay are: B+W Digital UV/IR Cut Sperrfilter 486

I had a bit of time in the shop today:

machined off the irregular perimeter of the C/V adapter, made a thin ring and press fitted it, effectively replacing the missing area of the original flange. Next I have to machine in the lens locating recess, as some of that was removed and six recess for coding.

jlm - could you post a few pictures of the machining and finished product when you have time? I have access to a model-maker's lathe and would be interested in trying the same thing

too tiny for my lenses to record much. here is a guide: machine the OD of the adapter to about 1.830", this gets rid of the stepped part and the irregular OD and produces a true OD. make a brass ring .035" thick, 2.004" OD and about .005" smaller ID than the machined adapter. press fit the ring with a bit of Locktite on the mating surfaces. get it flush the lens side of the adapter.

you will have removed most of the lens lock detent, but there is enough left to locate it. then machine a suitable slot in the ring to reproduce the lens lock. tne recesses are .062 x .100 x .010 deep and are at 220 degrees, then at 5 degree increments, with the lens lock your 0 degree reference.

besides a mill and lathe, i needed a dial indicator, in and out micrometers, a rotary table, 1/16" end mill, 2" OD brass stock.
