Hi Spoow,

of course this is your personal decision, but this is what I would do.

 

I would choose the D-Lux 5 because:

 

- Its smaller which means you can carry it around all the time and you wont have a lot of problems with the weight and the size.

- It has a better lens and a better aperture ( f/ 2,0-3,3) vs the V-Lux 2 ( f/ 2,8-5,2)

 

 

Sure the V-Lux2 has got way more zoom (3,8x optical 24-90mm vs 24x optical - 25-600mm) and maybe a better handling and it isnt a bad camera but for me the size is very important at this type of camera.

It depends what you want the camera for, they are completely different. The V-Lux2 is meant as a light universal camera for travel, equally at home in a city or a safari park. The D-lux-5 is aimed at photographers who want a compact high-quality camera for daily use, maybe as a second string with a larger system, DSLR or similar. That means the D-lux is higher image quality and more pocketable, the V-lux rather good and more versatile.

Thank you guys, well i'm into more daily use camera and time by time i like to take focus picture its not that important to me, but would love the camera i have its help me to have some focused picture , and as you mention the size its really matter

 

i think i'm going with D-Lux

 

any more recommendation suggestion opinion are welcome

If you want to take photos in a wide variety of different focal length, maybe a V-Lux 2 is the right tool. If 24-90mm is enough, take the D-Lux 5. When you want to make photos very discret, take the D-Lux 5, the little "black box" is nearly unvisible, especially with the electronic viewfinder using in an angle of 45 degrees. Best for street photography, I think. Otherwise you can zoomin also scenery "discret" with a V-Lux 2. But recognize the tubus, when zoomed in, is very long (compared to V-Lux 1), that is really not discret to people in near area...

The D-Lux 5 is really very compact and, while using the handgrip, very handy. The D-Lux 5 Vario Summicron with f 2.0 to 3.3 is really great for compact camera. 2.0 together with ISO 400 or 800 gives very nice photos in lowlight and so the possibility of available light photos without tripod, just with a "calm hand" - the rest is a job well done by the "Mega Engine Image stabilizer".

If you want a camera looking a little bit like a SLR with similar feel in your hands try the V-Lux2, but when you want a camera with the feel and form factor of a compact and "everyday with me" feeling, try the D-Lux 5 - and get pictures which you never expected from a compact camera!

 

Choose well, but I think you ever choose good when choosing a red-dot ;)

 

By the way: I have the D-Lux 5 with handgrip and EVF. Never one second I regret the money spended.

D-Lux 5 is very capable, light, compact, fast, with good IQ. The 24-90-equiv lens covers a field of view from 84º to 27º (ideal for packing people into the shot in tight spaces, scenics, buildings, through to portraits and details). The V-Lux would be better for wildlife or sports. I also have an OVF (optical viewfinder, 24mm), which is very useful for keeping the camera stable and seeing the subject -- just about impossible on the LCD in bright light, especially when wearing sunglasses.

OK, if you only shot wide, that may be ok but for the money you can also buy the ELV and also you see the wide angle. When you use only the Optical VF you only get 24mm and never see what you zoom. So for me, the EVF is - although it has low resolution (but not tremendously bad!) - the best way to get a "classical camera". And: what I see is what I get. No frame picture.

 

And sure the D-Lux 5 has very good possibilities to make some HD video. But I agree, I also do not use that often, maybe only as for a snapshot situation or so. For real video filming, the best is really to buy a video cam. HD video on compact cameras is for me, a kind of gimmick.

Not quite correct because the DL5 has the stepped zoom feature, which allows you to step the zoom through focal lengths of 24, 28, 35, 50, 70, and 90 mm. If you have a variable focal length optical viewfinder you will be able to match it to those focal lengths.:)

Absolutely right! I just thought about the optical viewfinder which is a supplememnt for D-Lux5. But that VF diesn´t have that possibility.

 

By the way: the step zoom is very nice feature!

_no electroniv viewfinder: so problem of useage in bright sunlight as any Compact Cam

_only JPG, no RAW possibilities

 

 

Just think about for what you need your cam and how serious your photohobby may be, also in 2-3 years. Maybe if you think it can be a hobby which is serious, and far away from taking "only" holiday vacational pics, then the D-Lux 5 is the right one, you get an excellen cam and a good software (postprocess and archivating).

The V-Lux 20 is maybe nive for everyday photo for good photos but not with high aspects in photography itself (sorry - V-Lux 20 users, thats my opinion).

 

Choose well! :)

Thank you very much probably ill go with D-Lux 5 , u mention Pro is there 2 kind of D-lux 5?

 

what is grip and EVF? and what is lightroom , my english is kinda bad :D
