Should Leica introduce a M8.3?

Well, have to reply to this:

...Would a cheaper digital Leica M be possible? Produce offshore to cut labor costs? It has already been done, No it has not unless you mean the Leica CL made by Minolta which as has been said here is a different product, and in any case was a mechanical camera not digital..........but there is a danger that individual pride of workmanship will be lost as the desire for cost-cutting takes precedence. If you are suggesting that pride of workmanship being replaced by sweat labour and /or robots then frankly if they produce a better quality product is that bad? Do you feel that Leica M9 quality due to the hand built nature is perfect and cannot be improved?....

Portugal would be cheaper than Solms.

Sweat labour and robots not bad? Bring on the Daleks. Exterminate!

Simple answer... It won't happen. Leica dealers and distributors don't (and won't) make money from upgrades. They've already complained about the M8.2 and that was why Leica said they will not have further upgrades for the M8.

Leica, as a manufacturer, must not only satisfy the needs/wants/concerns of customers (end-users) but also their distribution chains. If they decided to go the upgrade route, the dealers/distributors could easily ditch carrying their products and Leica would be completely screwed.

...I'd buy a Jaguar if I could afford to run one.

Jags are still great, but how about a real handmade British car? In Kevin McCloud's 43 Principles of Home (great book btw) the author asks which is most eco-friendly? Toyota Prius, 1937 Alfa Romeo Tourer, Ferrari, 37-year-old Bond 875 [not James], Innocent Smoothie van, Aston Martin DB9, Range Rover?

The Aston of course! Bespoke craftsmanship, more ethical, local transaction, involves much less shipping (if you live in the UK), creates relationships between the makers and the owner. And if the Aston owner takes public transport and only uses his or her car at weekends, that's gotta be good for the environment....his point is, answers aren't alway so clear cut.
