I have seen a few images from some of you guys posted here in this website and I am very impressed. Â 1) I am looking for more sample images to have a better feel for what it can do. 2) If anyone know of any comparison reviews between the Nikon 200mm/2VR and this Summicron-R, I would love to read it. It is heavy, but, I found it to be a comfortable lens to handhold with an R9/DMR combination. I especially liked using it at f/2. Both were posted to the LUG and DMR thread, just after I got my DMR. The second is the lens at the closest focus. Both shot handheld, wide open. So, you know my "weakness"and that's why I am deciding between the 2 lenses. If Canon 5D is needed, I'll acquire one. ddp Posted January 20, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted January 20, 2007 The Nikon lens is held in pretty high esteem. It's an uncommon lens to be sure. The manual version had a bit of a mythical status - mostly used by sport shooters and in that same era, they had a 300mm F 2.0....which is truly a rare bird. Â The 180 Summicron is a reference lens. The shots I posted were all handheld, with either my R8 or R9 and motor attached. I enjoyed the weight combination for the most part and that's why using the Noct on the M isn't an issue. Seeing a set of chromes shot with my M system next to the R system made me decide to simply shoot only film with the M system for my personal work. Sold off the R kit to fund more M gear. robsteve Posted January 20, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted January 20, 2007 Are there problems with putting mating the Summicron with the 5D? Â No, just that it is a Canon and not the best of the Canons. The 1Ds MkII images done with this lens does it better justice. If you followed the 1Ds MkII versus DMR thread on Fred Miranda, the DMR also produced better looking images than the 1Ds MkII or 5D. The 1Ds MkII images could get close, but not without a lot of post processing. Â For comparison, the DMR currently has much better color than the M8 and similar overall image quality. I have seen your 90mm APO ASPH shots with the M8. You will get similar image quality with the DMR using the 90MM APO Summicron-R ASPH on the DMR. The 180mm APO Summicron gives similar quality but much more bokeh at f2 because of the longer focal length. Â Robert Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
