chazlin Posted January 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hiya everyone =) First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for contributing so much to this wonderful repository of information on the Leica M-system... I've been lurking around here for quite a while and I've gained soo much from reading everything you guys write! So... finally after waiting for over 4 months, reading and researching here and elsewhere and envying those who've already received their M8's, I finally have my chance to get one, my dealer here in Asia finally gave me a call today saying they have a single new black M8 for me! =) I'd like to ask everyone, is there any way to find out or test for sure if the M8 that they are holding for me is the updated, fixed verson with the new sensor? Firmware I can update myself, but I'd like to make sure that mine is the most current version before I accept any delivery... (I don't want to have to send mine to Solms) Are there any things I should look out for? Thank you all so much! Charles
Advertisement Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Hi chazlin, Take a look here How to know if I'm getting an updated M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2007 The sensor is the same, the sensor board has been adapted and all camera's after December 31 st are the second version. It will have firmware 1.
sagarwal Posted January 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2007 For an updated M8, the version should be 1.09. You can't tell the firmware version without switching on the M8, though. If you open the box, you can look for a form with an offer of 2 free IR-cut filters. The form will be in a folder along with a bunch of other documents as soon as you open the box (shouldn't have to unpack everything). Presence of that form also indicates that it's an updated M8. There's no accurate method to find out, though, AFAIK, besides asking Leica.
larry Posted January 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2007 Charles, It's extremely unlikely that your dealer would have anything other than an updated camera. The first batch was either sold or recalled by Leica before the end of November. According to Leica, all cameras that were shipped from the factory from the end of November forward were updated. As others have noted, if the packaging includes the invitation to register the camera online for two free IR filters and firmware 1.09 is installed, it's a new camera. The camera's serial number is irrelevant. Larry
