johnbuckley Posted January 19, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) On another thread, there was a reference to HCB's cropping his famous picture of the man leaping over the puddle. I note this, from Michael Kimmelman's review in the New York Times of parallel shows by HCB and Martin Munkacsi at the International Center of Photography: Â "The Gare St. Lazare puddle-jumper photograph is here too, uncropped and a little hard to decipher on a scale barely larger than a postage stamp. Cartier-Bresson rarely cropped photographs, but in this case it made the difference between another variation on a cliched subject and a landmark in the history of photography." Â Go see the show... ECliffordSmith Posted January 19, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 19, 2007 John, Â This is interesting. It would be very nice to see the original image. I had read that the image was cropped but had no idea to what extent. Hopefully the exhibition will come in this direction. Â Thanks for the information!
