gravastar Posted December 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone tell me what the item should be to the left of the foam square cut out for the black lens box and below the circular cut out for the leather case. The small hole is rectangular with two semi-circular areas at the ends. I have a lens to return to Solms for replacement and the contents so far are: Lens in black polyester lined box, Nappa leather case, instruction manual, warranty card, test certificate and upper and lower foam packing with cut outs. There has to be one more item, what is it? Thanks, Bob.
Advertisement Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Hi gravastar, Take a look here Noctilux 0.95 Box Contents. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Robert J Posted December 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 2, 2010 Have you tried asking Leica what item is supposed to go in the empty cut out?
ejd Posted December 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 3, 2010 I don't think there is anything to go in that space. It is just gratuitously emply. John
ho_co Posted December 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2010 Bob, don't worry about it if you can't find it. Return what you've got. That's all you can do. If it's something important, they'll mention its absence. Problem with the lens?
spylaw4 Posted December 3, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 3, 2010 As far as I can recall it's the same ridiculously large box used for the 24/1.4 & 21/1.4. So pure conjecture - but perhaps it was intended for a viewfinder + case, which never made it into the 24 & 21 box anyway.
gravastar Posted December 3, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted December 3, 2010 Thanks for all your suggestions. The answer to my question is the cut out takes a small sachet of silica gel desiccant. After handing everything over I've just returned from Leica UK. Bob.
ho_co Posted December 3, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bob, I can just see Leica's designers sitting around and wondering "What can we put it that cutout?"
Humood Posted December 3, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 3, 2010 what was wrong with the lens bob? I was thinking if getting a noctilux from either the UK or the USA during my upcoming mid-December trip (if I am lucky enough to find one)
gravastar Posted December 3, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted December 3, 2010 what was wrong with the lens bob? I was thinking if getting a noctilux from either the UK or the USA during my upcoming mid-December trip (if I am lucky enough to find one) I've sent you a PM. Not to be a downer but I think you'll be very lucky indeed if you can find a Nocti "off the shelf". I think optically the lens is superb but it's high resolution and ability to blur out of focus areas leaves no marging for focus error whatsoever. Errors (whether due to user or rangefinder calibration) are much more noticeable than with the older f1.0 Nocti. My first lens and it's replacement had very simple/silly but different mechanical problems. One was due to a loose fixing screw in the aperture mechanism and the other slight mechanical damage .... nothing earth shattering. I'm waiting for feedback from Solms. Bob.
