I'm a college student who, for years, have shot with Nikon digital, and have recently acquired an M2. I shot with the camera and some Ilford/Ektar rolls and had them develop in a nearby lab. Being new to film, I was delighted to see results from the Ilford B/W but when saw the scans of the color negative of the Ektar I was dismayed to see a problem. The Ektar scans seem to show "fogging" or "color cast" on the image. Can anyone guide me in identifying the specific problem? andybarton Posted November 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2010 Welcome to the forum! The lighter stripe looks like a sticking shutter, to me. If the M2 hasn't been used for a while, running it through every shutter speed 10x per month, without film, helps keep them smooth. If that doesn't help, the camera will need a Clean, Lube and Adjust. As to the scan, how experienced are you at scanning? Did you get prints when you had the film processed? What do they look like? Vicente Posted November 28, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted November 28, 2010 Hi andy, I'm quite confused since the problem only shows up with the Ektar, while the Ilford doesn't show the fogging/color cast quality. Actually I only had the rolls developed and I made the scans myself. I am hoping that the problem is due to Vuescan and not the camera itself, because while using Vuescan, the software didn't have the proper selection for the film profile so I instead played around with the profile. andybarton Posted November 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2010 Well, that's Ok. Did the same lab process that, or did you do that yourself? It's difficult to comment much further. Try to travel the colour neg, using the tips here (set the colour profile to "generic" or one of the Kodak pro films, and use the White Balance drop down as a starting point. You might need to return to the lab and ask them to print this frame on a 6x4 to check their processing. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

pop Posted November 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 28, 2010 Color negatives are "masked", i.e. they look rather orange to begin with. The greenish cast could be caused by this. If you follow Andy's advice above, the cast should be greatly diminished. The bight blurred band could also be due to some light entering the slot of the film cartridge. Xmas Posted November 28, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 28, 2010 Look carefully at the negatives is the fault on the rebates, sprocket holes? If you cant see the same effect (as a complement in the negative) it is probably the scanning. If the Ilford was XP2 than it is probably not the mini lab, if you had them done together.
