cnguyen Posted January 18, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Friend of mine got one and we did a test on his M8 and it came out pretty sharp. The only thing I don't like is the round runnel vision you get when look thru ths viewfinder. Also the weight it's one the heaviest M lenses made. I use my 135mm hektor which is very good for its age and it's good enough for me . i don't shoot the 135mm range that often anyway.

With the crop factor - it becomes a 180 2.8. I enjoy shooting with it. As has been pointed out it is heavy, but the lens deliveres a very interesting look with the M8. It can be coded I am told.  As for the goggles - they help with framing (a little harder task with the 135 tele-elmar without the goggles) - as you know this is not a reflex situation and the goggles are a compromise as the M8 has no framelines for the 135mm.  Shooting Long - Leica M8 - a photoset on Flickr  I shot the above this past weekend with the M8 - it is unusually cold here on the coast - the light was good. Fun. Check-out the larger image size!  Cheers. Terry.
Shootist Posted January 18, 2007 Author Share #5  Posted January 18, 2007 Thanks ALL for the replies. Terry thanks for the link to the shots. I have 2 of these already, one not so good and the other is perfect. I also have a 50/2 and a Suma C 40/2 and a tele-elmarit 90/2.8. I'm looking at the 24/2.8 for the M8. Now the only problem is getting a M8. Funny part is I was on the B&H website this morning at 5:30 and both the silver and black M8's were Out Of Stock and then reading this forum I saw a few people bought M8's from B&H this morning. Well kick me in the but-t.  Hi Ed, It works well, takes some getting used to. With the crop factor - it becomes a 180 2.8. I enjoy shooting with it. pascal_meheut Posted January 18, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Can you mount the lens on the M8 if you have the handgrip ?
terrycioni Posted January 18, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Ed, Â You will enjoy shooting with the 135 it is fun and a different experience... I don't have a 24mm but it is something I think would be useful with the M8. I am seriously looking at the 25mm Zeiss lens - and will have a chance to shoot with it over the weekend (a friend has one and is going to allow me to have a look see). I have the 21mm Bigon F2.8 and the 35mm Biogon F2 Zeiss M lenses and both are extremely good in every respect. If the 25mm Zeiss lens is what I want - I will purchase it from Tony Rose at popflash. Â Good luck hunting down an M8. Planning and strategy seems to be way to go. Check-out POPFLASH.COM - Cameras & Photographic Equipment - Tony Rose is the best. Â Cheers. Terry. terrycioni Posted January 18, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Can you mount the lens on the M8 if you have the handgrip ? Â Good question Pascal. I don't have the Leica M8 grip so I can't test this. I think one of the local dealers has the M8 grip and if I get can down there I will check it out. The grip with the 135 tele-elmarit would be 'a good thing'. As I live in Vancouver and know Tom I will ask him if will be possible with his upcoming grip. Â Cheers. sc_john Posted January 18, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Pascal, Terry, Â I have 135 w/ eyes, and it will NOT mount on my M8 unless grip is first removed. Not really that big of a deal, other than is slows lens change down a bit.
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 18, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 18, 2007 No one has mentioned it, but the 1.25 magnifier will make focusing a lot easier with any long lens. I got one and keep in on the camera all the time.
bnelson Posted January 18, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Bill... Â I will second the use of the magnifier. I just got a -2 diopter to use in conjunction with the magnifier and together they are great. A tremendous help in focussing for me. The magnifier with glasses was good but not nearly as good as with the diopter. Â Bill
terrycioni Posted January 18, 2007 Share #12  Posted January 18, 2007 I am not sure (but stand to be corrected) you would want to use 1.25 magnifier with the 135mm F2.8 Tele-Elmarit with goggles, but certainly with the 135mm F4. Tele-Elmar or the 135 F3.5 Apo Telyt both goggless  Cheers. Terry
