rothberg Posted January 18, 2007 Share #1  Posted January 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I went to my local dealer, just full of P&V about not hearing from Leica. A letter early this month with pricing in Euros, then an e-mail saying I would get pricing on a discounted lens in dollars, then, nothing. I posted here only to find out that most folks also had not heard from Leica.  Anyway, I requested that my dealer call Leica and find out what's going on.  Two hours later, my office phone rings, it's Jerry Brown, Leica Rep. Could not have been nicer, gave me names & phone numbers, told me that although Leica is a small company they really are trying. He told me that, the systems in Europe don't talk well with the systems in the US (I believe that). The US office just got a big shipment (what ever that means). He promised (oh boy) that I would get a call, soon from somebody in the NY office with a date to ship the camera for its upgrade.  It's just amazing what communications and honesty will do. Perhaps I am kidding myself but I think the whole company really wants to do right; they are a great engineering boutique that builds wonderful lenses and will, if we give them time get the M8 body right too.  My faith in the “little elves in the German woods” has (provisionally) been restored. They better not let me down……

Eoin Posted January 18, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 18, 2007 While I understand your frustration, but I think it's more impatience than lack of communication. Leica clearly stated in their message to M8 owners and I can't remember if they mentioned it in the registration process also, that they would contact owners with a view to making an appointment for the effected M8's to go to Solms. I'm sure they are working down the list in what ever order they have setup. It serves no purpose to have all the M8's recalled at the same time causing a backlog in Solms. Â With regard to the Lens offer, Leica sent an email on the 29th Dec 06 saying they would issue a new price list in the very near future, some people are already reporting they are receiving this letter now. Â Others whom have taken a more pro-active approach seem to have already made communication with Leica and sent the camera in for "upgrade"
Guest maddin Posted January 18, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Sandy, Â I hope you do not consider me hijacking your thread. However, your title was so positively encouraging to me that I just like to post here. Â The amazing thing is, there are real people in Solms having real names and telephone numbers. And you can actually look them up on the webpage and call them. Â I mention this because I have no dealer around me and, well, I don't need them to get my R's & M's working. Â No offence against dedicated dealers (some advertising here: folks, buy at LbM in Hamburg or Berlin!!) BUT, we as so called consumers can talk directly to them, the manufacturers. So, don't be shy, ring them up and talk to the people. Â cheers
