jaapv Posted January 18, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What makes you so sure that you won't have gst and qst to pay? Do you really believe Leica either got a sales tax exemption from both Canada and Quebec, or will collect them from us on their behalf? Because Leica said that they themselves would pay local taxes. I wonder how that works in countries that have a 100% import levy (and they exist, believe me)
Advertisement Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Leica's offer of 30% off the price of a lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hammam Posted January 18, 2007 Author Share #22  Posted January 18, 2007 Olivier: If the Leica price includes tax, as they say, and you take the Montreal price and add the HST, the discount from the Montreal tax paid price is about 28%. ... Robert  Okay, if Leica will actually pay Canadian customs duties and sales taxes, I stand corrected on that. However, with the current exchange rate of the € vs the Can. $, I still can't get more than 23% off the street price of the 28/2.8 (1,650$, or so) in Montreal, including sales taxes. Not bad, but not 30%.

Not bad, but not 30%.  Why do you think Leica should be basing their prices on whatever your dealer happens to be selling the lens for? The discount based on European prices is genuinely 30% and the VAT element provides a buffer for the increased cost of getting the lens to you in Canada, tax paid.  For the US, they may well reduce the prices a bit to take account of there being no sales tax, but they will still incur some clearance costs, so I doubt any reduction would be the full 19% VAT removed. scott kirkpatrick Posted January 18, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted January 18, 2007 Is the 2 free codings in the letter or a separate coupon that came with the camera? I saw a coupon for 2 free filters but nothing about free codings. Mine is the 2nd batch. Â The 2 free codings is an offer by Leica US (and Canada, too) for those who purchase a lens new (not the camera). It is described in a note downloadable from the US site, http:Leica Camera AG . I don't recall the exact dates, but it also requires sending a copy of the original invoice and it is easiest to do it when you return the warranty card.
