Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 17, 2007 Share #1  Posted January 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well not normally the take it as it is given to me kind of guy , I normally tinker around until I find something that may just work better or solve a probelm. In this case the Leica lens hoods for the 28mm cron and the 35 lux. the 35 lux hood was falling off a lot and i wanted to try some other hood . On recommendation from a forum member ( forgot who it was) i bought a couple metal round lens hoods in 46mm eBay: New! Metal Wide Angle 46mm Screw-in Lens Hood (item 140046449068 end time Dec-31-06 05:00:45 PST)  That is the e-bay listing i bought from but anyway looks like these will work very nice. I have these screwed in on the IR filter so they stick out as far as the normal Leica hoods . As you can see in the images i placed the leica hoods where it would normally sit on the lens. Also as you will see they are smaller looking at them straight on and in turn i get less blocking in the framelines . i have noticed no vignetting on a quick test. Pardon the dust here they were shot with my other M8 and the 75 cron Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 17, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 17, 2007 Here are some front views to show how much smaller they are and on the 35mm framelies i can just see the bottom left corner cut out and i mean a small amount. On the 28mm a little more but in both cases a lot less than the Leica hoods. maybe worth the 10 dollars each just to see if you like them . Now are they cutting out as much light as the leica hoods maybe not but i use hoods for protection more than anything else becuase with hoods like Leica's and the metal hoods i don't use lens caps but if you want on the 35mm shot in the previous psot i used a 55mm slip on that works great from Kaiser Welcome, dear visitor! Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 17, 2007 Share #4  Posted January 17, 2007 Next solution how to get a hand grip. Well this works but it is a little uncomfortable because of the way the strap goes on the bottom of your forefinger . You can see this in the shots . Okay the parts are a Sunpack hand strap I ordered through B&H Sunpak Contoured Hand Strap for SLR Camera now you can probably use it they way it is but the plate is plastic . Yuk! So i bought a RRS camera plate with a slot in it and redone it using that . Than i cut a Leica neck strap for the strap key as you can see and reasembled it . One problem is the Lug is too low as you will see Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! sean_reid Posted January 17, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Hi Guy, Â Thanks for the examples. A similar type of hood, that I keep looking for, also threads into the lens or filter but is vented so as to not block the finder. The Konica 28 Hexanon came with one of those and I've been searching for others. Â Cheers, Â Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 17, 2007 Share #6  Posted January 17, 2007 Okay I shot these with one hand and guessed at the focus . Hard to shoot with one in one hand and the other in the other hand but you can see were that lug sits and can be uncomfortable but i am going to give it a try for the next two days on shoots . Good news i am booked solid for the next two weeks . So looks like my 2007 wish is looking good so far, fingers crossed and hell the toes too. LOL  Now if someone made a new grip and contoured the strap for your hand they maybe able to use the grip to attach too instead of the body Welcome, dear visitor! hankg Posted January 17, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guy, great handstrap rig. You should see if Luigi will make one in leather with a D-ring up top allowing a wider leather strap to thread directly through it so you can eliminate all that stuff by your forefinger. Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 17, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 17, 2007 I agree Hank . Some simple lug instead of the leica clamp would be better. That is were the it is most uncomfortable. Also a little hard to get finger to top but just have to work it in place. Worth a try until some designer from Leica or Luigi can come up with a better way. Okay the request is out there, make us happy with a cool leather hand strap

But still a block there
gtmerideth Posted January 17, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Another source for hand straps is Camdapter which sells the strap and a quick release plate. martinb Posted January 17, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Nice setup! The only third party accessory I use is the Domke gripper strap and I also have a HK Supplies 1.25x magnifier on it's way. How do you like the grip? A bit OT, but does the 28 summicron block anything of the 28mm framelines without hood?
canlogic Posted January 17, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted January 17, 2007 I bought the HK Supplies 1.25x magnifier I think for about $60 Canadian instead of the real expensive Leica one. Works great and took about 3 days to get. Also have a softie from Tom Abrahmson, excellent as well for $20.
hankg Posted January 17, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Guy, Luigi has a half case with a leather hand grip -I am sure he could stitch an adjustable hand-strap to the case.
