Hi Mark

Just interested to know how do you keep track of the progress? As I'm planning to send mine back from HK after Chinese New Year.

Cheers

Matthew

I can't get it to work using the German site with serial number either. I tried Firefox and Explorer 6 and 7, and even tried the German laguage site as well as English. It just recycles to the original entry page.

Mark, I assume you're in Europe somewhere and received your repair number directly from Solms? The numbers you get from Leica USA don't seem to work on the website.

Yes, I'm in the UK. The German repair tracking function works for my serial number as well. Don't know how repairs are tracked from the US, maybe they don't put them on a publicly accessible system.

I'm afraid US customers will have additional delays due to batching up of shipments and customs at each end. Once of the very few benefits of being in the EU is the free passage of goods between member states.

Mine was booked into Leica USA 37 days ago. I'm worried that something strange is going on -- like Leica USA is "batching" cameras, so if you just miss one shipment, it might sit in New Jersey until they have enough for another batch. In that case, you'd never know when your camera got to Solms...I wish I'd sent it Fed-Ex directly to Solms....

Mine took about that long, and I live in Berlin. Don't worry about it, there is nothing we can do except wait. Mine turned out to need some hard-to-find part, who knows what, so it sat around in Solms for a while before returning.

I was just able to track my M8 repair on the Leica USA website. I used my serial number and allowed the pop up. Shipped to Leica USA on 12/19. Shipped from Solms on 1/18. Leica camera was closed from 12/23/06 until 1/2/07. I am pleased with the turnaround.

I sent my M8 to the NJ, USA facility on 01/03/07 Next Day Air. I just looked on the US Leica website to track my repair order. I used a Mac PowerBook G4 and the M8 serial number and it all worked. My service order was registered on 01/16/07, and is in repair today, 01/17/07. I will notify the forum when it is ready to ship. Besides the update, I asked that the CCD sensor be cleaned since it was contaminated since I took my first pictures.

UPS tried to deliver it today but no one was here to sign for it. I should receive it tomorrow (18 January.)

did you have lenses in for coding, too?

i thought i read that they were using DHL in the US for the M8 shipments. my returned 50 summilux came today by UPS. they told me yesterday that my M8 would ship out today and be here (west coast) by friday.

I just got an e-mail from Leica USA that said my camera was back from Solms and will be shipped tomorrow, and the Summilux will be fixed and shipped next week. I sent the camera in on Dec. 8 (booked in at NJ on the 12th) and the lenses on Nov. 28 (booked in at NJ on Dec. 6.)

Whew! I wonder if this is a routine outcome, or was related to my bitching and moaning? At any rate, the bloom is now back on the rose, and I'm going to send them four more lenses for coding.
