Does anyone have any experience with clearing a film jam in an M6? For some reason my M6 jammed at the end of the roll. The film was loaded correctly but it appears to have got hung up at the end of the roll. I cannot engage the rewind lever release teh shutter or wind on any further (I have not forced it of course).

I took the baseplate off in a changing bag hoping it that would free things up but no deal. Does anyone have any ideas before I have to send it in to Leica service?

I have been usoing my M for 5 years and never had this problem before - occasionally it has come close to hanging up but usually a tiny further wind-on allows a shutter release and clears the problem.

This is rather frustrating as it happened on the second roll of a trip to Antarctica!

All suggestions most appreciated!

I would take the film out of the camera in a changing bag, or a dark room, rewind it into the cannister by hand (keep turning the spool until the film is all the way in). Then you can work with the camera with the bottom and back open. Check for film chips. Close it and see if frame numbers go to 0. Turn everything without forcing. It may work itself loose. If it does, crank the film advance lever several time at various shutter speeds, etc. Hopefully, it's a one time glitch.

Success - I managed to clear the jam! After several attempts with the baseplate off in a changing bag, I managed to back up the film just enough to engage the rewind lever.

The subsequent re-wind was a bit rough (and I may have scratched up the film some) but the problem is solved.

Thanks for the advice and input on my question. Most appreciated.

Peter :)
