BillCB Posted November 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm puzzled and maybe another member can help me. I thought there was only one version of this lens, described as "Apo-Telyt-M 1:3.4/135 mm". In the material I have read there is no mention of an aspherical element. Yet on Leica AG's website (Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA APO-TELYT-M 135 mm f/3.4 ASPH.) the lens shows as "Leica Apo-Telyt-M 135 mm f/3.4 ASPH". Is this a new version? Advertisement Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Hi BillCB, Take a look here 135 mm Apotelyt M f3.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
twittle Posted November 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2010 Interesting. The technical sheet shows no aspherical element, so my guess is that the ASPH was accidentally inserted in the description.
adan Posted November 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2010 A cut-and-paste typo by Leica's webmeister. The image of the lens shows the designation engraved around the lens hood, and there is no "ASPH" in the engraving. (Leica is famous for creating excitement with typos - a few years ago they seemed to be listing a 28 f/1.2 - but it was just the Summicron with a typo.) I doubt that there is much that an ASPH element could do to improve the 135 Telyt; I doubt that Leica would bother with an (expensive) change to a marginal lens (in terms of sales, not quality!); and I'm sure if they had, they'd have made a big deal about it. Yeah, but the German version was wrong a while ago, too. At home, I happen to have a printout (in German language) of the technical details of this lens in pdf-version, and the heading says "ASPH". Clearly a typo or cut and paste error though, as there never was any aspherical element in a 135mm Leica lens. Andy

I own a 3.4/135 APO-Telyt, too, but I never dismantled the lens in checking for an aspherical element . Andy
