dannirr Posted January 16, 2007 Author Share #21 Â Posted January 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) When you call Calumet, they have no idea when they'll have them. Lots of places advertise them "in stock" and even take an order on line - but they dont actually have them. WBHunt last night showed it to be "in stock", took the order, sent a confirmation of the order by email. When I called them today as I had payed for next day air, they said it was not in stock. They never attempted to contact me to tell me that. Â Danni
Advertisement Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Hi dannirr, Take a look here M8 availability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tony C. Posted January 16, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted January 16, 2007 I certainly understand many people's frustration, and while there's not one simple solution, I'll add my story to those who have had reasonable success. Â I called around about two and a half weeks ago, found a small dealer who was expecting one of each to be delivered "within two to three weeks", put a small deposit down on a black body (no wait list), and received a call today confirming that the camera would be at the shop by the end of the week. Â Given some of the horror stories, I'm obviously quite pleased to be receiving one so quickly. I should add that the (excellent) dealer stayed in close contact with me throughout, updating me on the ETA based on his conversations with his rep. And while I have purchased equipment from large stores such as B&H, I do prefer the experience of having the kind of reliable advocate which one often finds in smaller dealers. That sort of service can, of course, be especially useful when it comes to issues which arise after the initial purchase. Â Then again, given that it's an M8, what sort of issues could possibly arise? Â :>)` Â Tony C.

scott kirkpatrick Posted January 17, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted January 17, 2007 I ... bought a backup this weekend from b&h (so that i can return original without being m8-less!). Â I'm curious about your recent B&H purchase. Did you get it before they closed for Friday evening to Saturday evening period, or right after? It went from "in stock" to "out of stock" a few seconds after B&H opened for business on Saturday evening and others from this forum were left empty-handed. plasticman Posted January 17, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted January 17, 2007 Just as an additional note - i put my name provisionally on a list about 5 or 6 months ago (as far as i knew, i was number one at that time), and then sometime in the autumn i walked back over to the dealer and confirmed my order (at which point i'd somehow ended-up number 2 in what was then a list of 7). Â Gotta say i was annoyed as hell when i started seeing people here saying that they'd strolled into some store in an airport somewhere and walked off with a camera without waiting a day. But given that i'm now waiting to see how the dust settles, i'm pretty glad i haven't had that call yet.
pelikan1931 Posted January 17, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted January 17, 2007 why don't they just let the Japanese do it and concentrate on making lens? for elecontrics gear like digitial camera, the japanese would properly do a better job, cheaper, faster too.
