They did however mention the december cutoff date. Has anyone that bought the camera this month received the letter too or was this just sent in error? rgds, Etienne

etienne_werner Posted January 15, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted January 15, 2007 Congratulations, Etienne. You got a break. And what lens are you now thinking about? Â Well, eventhough I'm still not sure that they will give me the 30% off, I was looking at a 75mm. I'm also think ,at a later date, to replace the nokton 50 1.5 as I am getting back focus with it. I realize that that can be fixed but I believe that the Lecia QC will be much better. Â First I will have to save some money as I also intend to buy the S5 from Fuji. rgds, Etienne
jaapv Posted January 15, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 15, 2007 Congratulations, Etienne. You got a break. And what lens are you now thinking about? I dont like to be the one that dashes your hopes - but you will have to furnish the original receipt of the camera, proving the date you paid for it. Hans Roggen Posted January 15, 2007 Share #5  Posted January 15, 2007 Today I too got a letter from Leica telling me about the 30 pct deal and the possibility of sending my M8 to Solms to have it repaired. Even though i bought it in the first week of this month, I got a receipt dated dec 30th  The letter made me wonder though. Does this mean i got a 'first batch' M8 after all? Do they send these letters to anyone who registers their camera or do they look at the serialnumbers to see whose camera needs upgrading? My serialnr is 31053xx btw. I also had the enclosed pamphlet about the free IR filters, so i was always asuming mine was a new version.  Hans
marknorton Posted January 15, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 15, 2007 With that serial number, I doubt it.
jaapv Posted January 15, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just now got my letter in the mail. That clearly states the lens offer is for any customer who bought or paid for a M8 (not specified which version) before December 31. Proof of purchase required. wparsonsgisnet Posted January 15, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 15, 2007 With that serial number, I doubt it. Â Mark, my M8 was one of Batch Two, with the offer for the filters and its serial number si 3100xxx. I wonder if the body was manufactured and then held while the firmware fix was put in. Giulio Zanni Posted January 16, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 16, 2007 It seems that I also got the letter from Leica. However, I consider myself pretty set in terms of lenses: 28 f2, 50 f1 and 90 f2.8. Will there be new lenses coming out by 30 June? I would be extremely interested in a 24 f2 or 28 f1.4. Otherwise I could make a favor to somebody who needs to buy a new lens. Â Giulio
marknorton Posted January 16, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 16, 2007 The lens design guys must be doing something with their time though based on history, even 1 new lens a year is an embarassment of riches. I agree with Giulio though, a 24 Summicron or 28 Summilux would be great but I expect the design and production of such a lens would be a huge effort. Â Somewhere else, I saw a comment that the break-even point for Leica to pay the design and tooling costs is something like 6000 lenses. If that is true, Yikes! Â [i do hope they're not spending too much time on 4/3 lenses, at least on their own account, as I think that particular experiment will end in tears].
