farnz Posted October 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2010 Is this a member of the Flying Squad, Bill? ... Or was the Venetian version called the Leaping Squad but which never quite got off the ground? You've caught the decisive moment in a particularly 'Bressonly' way and produced a powerful and interesting photo that causes the viewer to ponder what happened next. Thanks for posting this. Pete. azzo Posted October 22, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, You've caught the perfect moment of a guy who 'likes' to take risks. .. Not only he's a bit far out from the 'ground' but that stonework he's about to land on is wet..... ps After seeing this, I'm now wondering what your Challenge input is going to be. 57andrew Posted October 22, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 22, 2010 Obviously, photoshop or that new fangled puddle jumping setting! It's a fine example of the decisive moment...... Or is that when he lands in the drink???
Guest suilvenman Posted October 22, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 22, 2010 Excellent anticipation and timing, Bill. Ken.
semrich Posted October 22, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 22, 2010 What everyone has already said, and did he make it? An especially bold or stupid move considering the boat moves away with the thrust of his leap.
stuny Posted October 22, 2010 Share #13 Posted October 22, 2010 Bill - Terrific, and the wet landing suggests additional risk (unless it's just dry polished marble), which adds tension as one continues to look at the iamge..
bill Posted October 22, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted October 22, 2010 Thank you all for your kind words. For the record: 1. The step was soaking wet and slippery (I went and looked)... 2. The boat was still making headway, faster than walking pace when he jumped. It moored about 40 ft further on... 3. He made it... 4. He had clearly done it many times before Regards, Bill

fotografr Posted October 22, 2010 Share #18 Posted October 22, 2010 The decisive moment if ever I saw one. Great catch! I wonder if that's a laptop in his case. If it is, this was a very risky leap.
topoxforddoc Posted October 22, 2010 Share #19 Posted October 22, 2010 Bill, Perfect timing! In fact either way, it was going to be good - jump onto jetty or fall in the water! Best wishes,
daveleo Posted October 22, 2010 Share #20 Posted October 22, 2010 I am pretty sure they call this "decisive moment" photography. If your name was HCB, you'd get $$$$$ for this one.
