Advertisement Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Hi sparkie, Take a look here Will D-Lux 5 electronic viewfinder accessory work on the D-Lux 4? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted October 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2010 The DL5 EVF need both the hot shoe and a secondary port just below the hot shoe to function. The DL4 does not have that secondary port so no it will not work.
Walt Calahan Posted October 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 14, 2010 I hear that Panasonic is working on a better electronic viewfinder then the one presently available for the D-Lux 5/LX 5 cameras. Basically the present viewfinder is the one Panasonic introduced with their GF-1 camera. The rumor of a new viewfinder was shared by a Panasonic representative to a friend, who is a retire National Geographic staff photographer who now does work for Panasonic, while attending this year's Photokina. The new viewfinder will compete with the features found in an Olympus electronic viewfinder already in use.

I would suspect they are working on a new EVF for the GF1, and future GF2 which will be out shortly, and it will also work with the LX/DL 5. Although Leica will probably charge a arm and a leg for it, it has the Leica name on it.

And do they need it.......I tried the EVF (on a GF1) the other day and it was as bad as the built-in G/GH EVF was good when launched. The new Olympus clip on EVF for the EP-2 was slightly better again than the G/GH so Panasonic, once in the lead, has some catching up to do now. With the GF2 on the horizon, I'm sure a new external EVF won't be far behind.

Probably far too early to know, but it would interesting to learn whether the new improved EVF would be directly usable on the LX5D Lux 5 cameras.
