I read that Photoshop CS3 Beta version could be downloaded for trial. I looked at the Adobe site and could not find it. Has anyone succeeded and, if so, any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

David,

You need to have a copy of CS2 to be able to use it for more than a couple of days. If you have CS2 you can enter your CS2 serial number and use the beta until the product is released in approx May. I am favourably impressed both with CS3 and the new version of Bridge. I haven't got the link to hand but I'm sure a little googling or digging in the adobe site will find it. Well worth a try if you have CS2.

Best wishes

I have been using CS3 beta for adout 1 month. Even on my G5 Quad PowerPC(Non intel), it seems faster especially upon loading where it rockets to open.I have had a few times where it has totally frozen during work on layers & required rebooting(actally shutting down) the computer.Since I have a PowerPC all my filters/plug-ins worked well from Nik plug-ins,PhotoFrame Pro 3.0 to Pixel genius software. The only plug-in not working currenyly is Genuine Fractal.CS3 Highly recommended. Finally I patiently await the M8 ordered since November.I read on another thread that they are available in Madrid,;my daughter studied there late last year through December & I should have had her bring on e back for me! Darn (;^)

thanks

Frank

I have been using Adobe CS3 (beta) for two weeks now. I am very impressed with overall performance and in particular with the action of Camera RAW many of the features that we have seen in Lightroom beta have been incorporated into CS3 beta. This change appears to be strongly directed toward the photography segment of the market. The controls for adjusting images in RAW are very smooth and intuitive. I have been easily able to improve on my printed images (Epson 2200) in CS3 beta.

I have been using it occasionally for well over a month. The RAW processor is impressive - but the rest is just not working well for me. I usually get Photoshop updates as soon as they become available but I think I might just pass on this version.

The world is changing and many good programs are becoming available. PS is doing more now than I need and C1 seems a better RAW processor. As to records management Adobe keeps overcomplicating things that other packages can do satisfactorily.

But let us keep our options open.

Photography is but a small part of the CSs capabilities, big changes are in its relationship to the web both as a product that constructs, as well as a product that ties computers to their online system. Some of the changes in the graphics dept. though not obvious to the people that don't use thet sector are incredibly time saving as well as adding those extra creative capabilities. More and more elements of Illustrator find their way into it as well. I know graphics people who have never used raw as they have no need for it

As George stated there are plenty of other players with great products for photo based situations, the days of Adobe being the means and ends of all for the photographer are slowly diminishing. Its greatest asset is the ability to act as a base station within the graphics medium.

A lot of things are just items that have been rewritten to make life easier i.e. the B&W convertor, all this was possible via hue and saturation, etc. Bridge still has those niggles in it.

There is a heap to like about CS3 for all

Sadly on MacIntel (I use a MacBook Pro) CS3 doesn't show the brush size, sometimes you can't even see the cursor when you use brushes.

The bug is listed at Adobe site and the only solution is to go to CS3 info -> check 'open with Rosetta'. But then CS3 will be much slower...

Otherwise it's great. :)

That's what Public Betas are all about - finding these things before someone asks you to stump-up a £500 cheque.

;)

I have found it very good, and don't think I have used CS2 since I installed it.

Indeed, I open CS2 only to use Photokit and PhotoKit Sharpener. Can't wait for their CS3 support... :)

Both PhotoKit & PhotoKit Sharpener can be installed in the appropriate CS3 folder & used within CS3.

Just copy & paste from CS2 to CS3.

Thanks to all of you who have replied to my request. Opinions seem to be a little mixed but I suppose that is to be expected.

In many ways I am well pleased with PS CS2 but would very much like to have a vastly improved Bridge programme. Not many members have commented on the new version of Bridge in CS3. May I invite those who have tried CS3 Bridge 2 to comment on the stability of the new version compared with the older? Mine (Bridge 1) crashes whenever I try to drag keywords into an appropriate set and it dislikes any multi-tasking, invariably crashing without warning.

Finally, although IView MediaPro is a super programme (I bought mine following advice in this forum), it does need modernisation. In PC/Windows you cannot drag and drop files into folders! However Microsoft have now bought the programme and one wonders in which direction they will go. Many are not filled with confidence. There is a desperate need for a thoroughly integrated programme to organise, keyword and catalogue our growing collection of digital files. What are members’ views?

I tried but it doesn't work.

In CS3 I can't even see their name in the File -> Automate menu.
