Advertisement Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here M8-sun out today in Boston-JFI plus Jamie-v1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted January 12, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Is it me or are the colors desaturated?
erl Posted January 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Is it me or are the colors desaturated? Â LCT, it's B/W! Â Sorry, couln't resist. Â On the first image, I feel the colours appear "natural" for what I am guessing is the lighting condition. Bushland can look quite flat sometimes. I have observed also that the M8 colours do have an identifying look that separates them from other files, at least to my eye. Maybe this is what you are seeing. Â Cheers, Erl
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 13, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 13, 2007 LCT, I can go with desaturated. The sun was at the side of the sky, but in a small portion. It was a gray day. This is about what this area looked like. Â I did try Jamie's chrome profile and it brought the sun out in spades!
erl Posted January 13, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Bill, Â As I said, I reckon it looks totally natural, however, Jamies 'Chrome' does work well for punch IF you desaturate a little after the application. The amount depends on the subject and personal taste. Â Can't wait to get mine back to get on with it. Â Cheers, Erl
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 13, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Erl, the colors here are accurate. However, the chrome profile definitely brought Spring back. Made my heart glad.
ed_oneal Posted January 13, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think what Bill is trying to say is that things just look that way in New England in the middle of winter.
lct Posted January 13, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 13, 2007 I may be wrong folks but Leica lenses can do much better than this IMHO. Bill, did you try without the Jamie's profile?
lct Posted January 13, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Just to compare saturation in a rainy country (Normandy - France) FWIW. Â Â Â (Epson R-D1, pre-asph 'lux 50/1.4, 800 iso, f/5.6, full frame and 100% crop)
Guest stnami Posted January 13, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 13, 2007 probably a tweak in LAB colour curves would see it out
Guest flatfour Posted January 13, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Bill. I would say your colours are spot on. there is a terrific temptation woth digital images to tart them up . You have resisted it.

arminw Posted January 13, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 13, 2007 What's so depressing about this Digilux 2 image? I always amazed on the quality this little 5mp camera produces .
Asher Kelman Posted January 13, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Bill, Â Your picture of the broken branch amongst leaves interestingluy shows hoe much latitude there is in the robustness of the files, even the posted jpg. Â I was able to bring in both ends on levels and add a slight S curve which made theimage POP! Â This can make a very effective B&W imag too. Â There my be tendency to under process these M8 images. However, an image needs to be "made". Of course a picture comes with the file straight out of the DNG. Still the DNG can easily take and benefit from adjustments in photoshop. Â Anyway, i really like your picture and it could be printed well in color or B&W. Â Asher
