Bought a new M9 in a store in Norway yesterday, and after getting home an unwrapping it i can clearly see it's been out of the box, and after a quick test i can see it has almost thousand exposures on it...hmmmm...

I sent the shop an email and said this is NOT ok after paying almost 7000$ for a camera, and that i demand a new one, i hope everyone here agree.....this stinks, is like buying a car "as new" and it has been driven for a month...??

Yeah, I could accept the camera being out of the box and some exposures being made, especially considering that they still aren't really sitting around on shelves at dealers. But 1000 exposures seems way too high for a camera sold as new and not a shop demo unit. I'd ask for a new one or a partial refund.

How do you figure out how many exposures it has?

Thanks!

Alexander, I agree with Mat and Bo - it sounds like they sold you a store demo model. My M8 came with a little over a hundred shutter actuations which, from what I gather, is normal. You have my sympathies and hope this works out to your satisfaction.

This thread has some helpful info -

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/144551-shutter-actuations.html

You need to find the "ImageUniqueID" of your last photo using Photoshop or other software and then convert it from hexadecimal to decimal, and that is your shutter count.

Alexander,

Sorry to hear that.

Just I wanted to tell you that the problem doesn´t come necessarily from your dealer. Back to 2007, my first M8 failed after 200 hundreds shots. It had also a problem with LEDs in the viewfinder. I called Leica and they asked my dealer "La Maison du Leica" to replace the camera by a new one.

"La Maison du Leica" sent the defective camera to Solms... and, after repairing the camera, CS at Solms send it back to "La Maison du Leica" as a NEW camera. The problem: Leica forgot to sent a new warranty certificate... and my dealer had to wait to sell it until Leica sent a "virgin" (as Madona) warranty certificate...

Agreed - what a bummer. However - isn't this better in the Customer Forum - It becomes frustrating when the only thing you see in the M9 forum is either bad news regarding retailers, fluff about the Ti, or drooling over meaningless special editions. I'm happy to help newbies who are trying to work out how to use a DRF for the first time, but I'm also interested to hear from people who are pushing the M9 to its limits and who are able to report on the results they're getting.

Nice if we started to get specific examples of how the M9 shapes up in real-world situations (and how it compares with other systems that many of us are using). Also to hear more on how different lenses are working out in actual use.

MOD - two thoughts.

1/ I know you gentlemen are busy, but good if customer issues could be transferred quickly to the customer section?

2/ When posts that are discussing the M9's performance in specific contacts / applications, could we leave them here rather than moving them to the photo section? I go to the photos forums when I'm interested in images rather than the means of capture. I drop into the M9 forum to find out how users (pro and am) are getting on with what is still a new device.

:)

I agree eg your recent M9 wedding post.

Speaking of real-world examples, I have just posted some photos taken in challenging circumstances in the Photo/People forum.

Would love to get some constructive criticism on these.

Ian - I'll have a look. If they're M9 images there's an argument for posting to the M9 forum (if the Mods smile on my modest proposal...) :)

Thanks for the feedback regarding this issue...there was some other minor things i forgot to mention, there was no battery, no user manual, lots of fat/finger marks, a small scratch on the lcd and lots of dust on the sensor....but this had a happy ending afterall, i will get a new camera, and i will even get a black one which is what i ordered in the first place....(i got a silver paint, because there was not possible to track down a black one, that was on monday, so i take this with a pinch of salt, haha...)
