What's the best way to get 35/50 ASPH Luxes?

Hi Maestros,

I have read in many places that people seemed to get the 35/50 ASPH Luxes easily...:(

For me, I have been unsuccessful in getting them. I tried B&H, Dale, Ken Hansen, and stores in Indonesia, Hongkong and Singapore. None! Maybe I was looking in the wrong places

I would appreciate it if you all can shed some lights on where and how to obtain these lenses. I mean, is Leica producing them only 1 lens per year? Or, are they hiding them on purpose to drive the prices up? What's the deal here?

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,

I would appreciate it if you all can shed some lights on where and how to obtain these lenses.

the best way is to order NOW at your prefered Leica dealer.

Probably that is the only way to get one of them in THIS life. :D

Andrew:

Order one or both with a reputable dealer that you trust (finding out first how long their waiting list is / how many orders are ahead of you for each lens), then sit back and enjoy / revel in the anticipation of receiving one or both. Until you're in the queue, nothing will happen. It will be worth the wait - the 50mm Summilux ASPH is an awesome lens. Sad to say I don't have the new 35mm Summilux ASPH - yet.

Waited about 4 months for the 50 lux after putting one on order with Robert White. From speaking to others, this appears to be a typical wait.

The 35 lux is another matter. I spoke to the dealer who procured the 50, and while I am low on their list, he has 55 on his waiting list, and has only recieved one- and they are one of the premier dealers in Germany.

I think the answer to your question is a one word answer- wait ;)

I found one (50 lux) on the internet which was just arrived at a Leica dealer store not so far from my hometown, bought it and canceled my order at my regular photostore (and i did the same with my M9).

Maybe you just need some luck!

Keep on wachting the Leica dealer stores on the internet, i did it almost every day and with some luck i now have my 50 lux.

DN,

How did u find the zeiss 50 sonnar? Any focus shift issue?

I tried one unit this morning but I think it exhibit focus shift

I love my Sonnar! There's some shift, sure - mine's optimized at f/2.8 (as originally released). You can get it optimized for f/1.5 if you want. It's really not a big deal and if you shoot with it, you'll figure it out. It front-focuses as you open up and get closer - I simply focus on a rear part of my subject or lean in a little. Think of it as two lenses in one. At f/2.8 and down it's a nice, sharp lens. Open it wider and it brings on the character. Very rapid falloff from IF to OOF with a unique bokeh.

Here are 139 images that I shot with it.

I have a 50 lux ASPH, which I bought by complete accident a few months before the M9 was announced.

I got very lucky on this.

Order one now and wait it out. The occasional search through second hand dealers is also fine, but don't expect a bargain.

For the 35 Lux, it is a lot easier. When the new model was out and as available, as the 50 Lux, I just went out and bought an old 35 Lux ASPH new from a Leica shop.

I don't regret it the slightest. It is a fabulous lens, takes the same lens hood as my 28 Cron ASPH, is slightly smaller than the new one and just works.

Second hand samples are now for the first time since the M9 announcement in good supply and go very low in price.

I was surprised, to see a very nice sample last weekend for just over 2.000 EUR.
