Tony C. Posted January 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm sorry if this has been covered already, but do the uncoded lenses need to be sent (from the U.S.) overseas for coding, or are they being coded by Leica here in the U.S.? Â Either way, what is the expected turn around time? Â Finally, should I contact Leica directly to set up a delivery? Â Thanks in advance. Â Tony C. scott kirkpatrick Posted January 12, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 12, 2007 In the US, but I don't know the answer to the rest of your questions. I haven't seen that any coded lenses have returned to their owners yet, but if they have, you'll hear more. Â scott
jrc Posted January 12, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 12, 2007 I sent five lenses off to NJ on Nov. 28 and got four back before Christmas, but still haven't got the fifth one back (they say they're missing a part.) For the first four, turn-around was a little more than three weeks. Looking forward to getting it back soon...I hope. Â Â JC
sean_reid Posted January 12, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 12, 2007 I believe they're being coded in NJ. Â Cheers, Â Sean
jwr50 Posted January 12, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 12, 2007 I sent three lenses into Leica NJ for coding. They received them on Dec. 14, and they were returned to me about a week ago. Not bad, given the Christmas holiday break.

arthury Posted January 12, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Did you find any optical advantage on results from the lens being coded compared to when it was not coded? I did not do a scientific test but I thought I saw better AWB & better tones coming right out of the upload to the computer. For the wider lenses, it is supposed to tackle the vignetting more aggressively than without coding for the wide lenses, such as the 24mm and the 21mm when opened wide. Â Actually, in the long term, I hope Leica will take advantage of the coding info and optimize the onboard processing further per lens. They know exactly what idiosyncrasies each Leica lens has and any particular weaknesses should be handled by the onboard firmware.
Guest WPalank Posted January 12, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Tony, Here is a pdf someone sent me regarding where to send and cost. I couldn't find it on the Leica US site. It is $125 per lens.
Guest WPalank Posted January 12, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Also, they promised me a two week turn around for four lenses. We'll see!
