onion Posted January 11, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone advise: Â Currently using D-Lux2 with a 65x SD card, and want to purchase a larger speedier card (if possible). Has anyone experienced noticable gains when shooting RAW with a card such as the Sandisk Extreme III (twice as fast) in comparison with a standard 65x card? Â To some degree a SD card's performance is directly related to the camera it's used with, and therefore does the D-Lux2 have the ability to go faster.. and faster.. ? Advertisement Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Hi onion, Take a look here speed. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted January 11, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 11, 2007 There is most likely a maximum speed at which the camera can flush data to a card. The example being the Digilux 2 which has a shortest write time of 6 seconds for a RAW+JPEG file pair. It dosen't matter how fast the card is. Older, really slow cards takes longer but once you get to about 32x it takes 6 seconds regardless of the card's speed rating. Â The only way to see if your D-Lux 2 is capable of utilizing the speed of say a 133x card is to test one and see. Â - C
rsolomon Posted January 11, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 11, 2007 i have just purchased the 2 gig extreme III. however i use it in the DMR. Ithink the things to check is the speed of the D-lux2. The throttle of overall speed will be on the camera side not the SD card. Also no sense buying a card that can move data quicker then the camera can . Â for example, what good it it to have a catcher that can catch a balll that goes 200 miles per hour if the pitcher can only throw the ball 100 miles per hour
LJL Posted January 11, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 11, 2007 The one big advantage of a faster card, even if the camera cannot write any faster, is when you download from card to computer. With a high speed card reader, it can make unloading go a lot faster. If you shoot a lot, and fill a lot of smaller cards, this can make some difference in your workflow speeds. Just a thought.
