Guest flatfour Posted January 10, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having now had an opportunity to handle an M8 I was pleased how M like it looked and felt. Looking through the viewfinder you could easily fool yourself that it is an M6. It's a little larger though and that is noticeable in the hand. The weight and finish suggests a true Leica M and the markings are excellent. This is no Digilux 2 follow on but a true M camera. The LCD screen is very good in both low indoor light and bright outside but with such a good viewfinder - unlike the Digi 2 - I cannot see myself using the LCD except for menu purposes.. I have been quoted a delivery date of three months for a chrome and four months for a black. (UK) .Most reviewers seem to like it and the users on this forum are producing good stuff. jaapv Posted January 10, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 10, 2007 There is no possibility of using the LCD as a viewfnder. Chrome versions are available off the shelf. Black versions have a five-day delivery delay.
Guest flatfour Posted January 10, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 10, 2007 Jaapy. How is it that the Netherlands can get an M more quickly. My dealer gets two M8s a month and he showed me his waiting list. It had at least a dozen names on it but he said one or two will drop out.
jaapv Posted January 10, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 10, 2007 I don't know. I walked into Kamera-Express on Dec 28th and wanted to buy a chrome one. As it happened they had just sold the last one hours before, but they called me on January 3rd to tell me they had new stock in. Bought it on January 4th. They managed to deliver my first body on November 17th, ten days before the official release date as well....Kamera-Express

Cruewell Posted January 10, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 10, 2007 Come buy yours in Spain! That's the good thing of living in a poor, backwards country: who'd buy an M8 here? Black ones are available instantly, I did not ask for the chrome version. Â Price is 3900 euros here (taxes included) if I remember well; is that close to prices in Germany and the Netherlands? Â It does feel great when handled. And it looks extremely similar to the M7, but I've never shot a photograph with either. Soon, maybe.

I have had a black M8 on order since August, with down payment, and none has been seen here yet. I'm actually first in line in Stockholm, and possibly in this country!  The old man from the Age of Brilliant Finders
Cruewell Posted January 12, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted January 12, 2007 I was wrong, must wait 15 days to get a black M8 in Madrid. Not too bad, though.
wilfredo Posted January 13, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 13, 2007 I lucked out. I bought one the very day I decided to get one. Cal's Camera in Costa Mesa, California, had one available when I called them. Samys Camera in nearby Santa Ana had a waiting list of about 15. The one I got is silver, I can't tell you all how much I'm enjoying this camera, and I was one of those who protested its release before the bugs were worked out.
