How to upload pictures with iPad?

I started using the iPad for copying pictures from the SD card of my M8 and D2 without thinking about it. Also, using it for accessing the Forum did not take much thought. It's quite a bit slower, though.

But: has anyone succeeded in uploading one of those saved pictures?

That would take the following steps, none of which the iPad seems to be capable of out of the box:

  • Rescale the picture to something smaller than 950px on a side
  • Compress to about or less than 300kB
  • Either upload to the forum using the forums uploading dialog
  • Or temporarily upload to another site from which it can be fetched by the forums uplading dialog

I have been able to find software for the iPad which allows me to crop, and rescale images. For all other functions I am still looking in vain.

You could email it to yourself - the email let's you select one of several sizes - and then save/upload the resulting attachment.

Far from perfect though. Perhaps the next release of Photoshop Express will include the facility - especially now that it runs at full resolution on the iPad.

Safari will not let you upload to here from the iPad.

However, if you have a web server, then you can get Good Reader and use its FTP to up load to your server and just put the URL in the picture tool here. Good Reader has the only competent FTP of all the iPad apps. It truly is good.

There are many picture manipulation apps for the iPad, but I have not sorted through for the best one. Perhaps I will do that today. It is part of my regular job now.

Steve, Pico - thank you for your answers.

The main stumbling block appears to be the browsers unwillingness to upload anything at all. The idea of using a web server already had occurred to me. However, as I don't have one at my disposal, it's not viable right now. I'll go and look for some free FTP space.

The image uploading dialog lets you enter an URL. Does anyone know whether it's the client or the server which will read the file off the URL? If it's the client, I might take a closer look at the WikiServer for the iPad.

Has anyone looked at the alternate web browsers on offer for the iPad? Can any of those upload files at all?

The resizing thingy sounds encouraging. Does it compress as well or does it scale only?

That's a sobering bit of the iPad experience. There's not the slightest problem with doing this with a netbook. Still, using the iPad is fun if you don't object to a grimy display.

Apple simply will not let you upload directly to here with any browser. I prefer Perfect Browser over Safari, but it won't work to upload, either.

iResize does not let you change compression, but since we are limited to 960^2, then it should not matter. Web browsers don't see ppi/dpi - just pixels. A 960x960 jpeg should fit within 273 KB. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Funny, but I don't see where we can upload using a URL. All I have are three Browse buttons.

  • 7 years later...

While trying to find help on uploading photos from iPad onto the Forum, I came across this thread from 2010. iOS has developed considerably since then, is there now a way to conveniently upload photos from the iPad Photos app onto the Forum?
