[the quote in true context]

My previous post was meant to describe the subtle barrier to certain points made here, as this one. True, the context concerns Sean's writings available only through subscription to his site; thus, these sorts of "please refer to material requiring a fee" are taken, respectfully, just as "please make use of the M8 to better understand..." references are made... or ought to be made ;) I also understand that by re-stating opinion expressed in his writing available at ReidReviews, he diminishes the value, somewhat. He needn't re-state all of it in a more public forum. Nor need anyone say "go buy this opinion to better understand the one I express"(poorly, without it).

Dave,

I wrote that to Rex because I know he reads the site already. It wasn't meant as an inducement for him to subscribe, he was already an early adopter. A quick read of that article might answer some of questions he had. Next time, I'll just PM him.

I hope we move on from this kind of debate eventually.

Sean

Sean, et al.

The only debate here, as I've contributed, is that if you, or anyone else has an opinion or comment to offer on the thread topic, then express it plainly. Just as I know this reply to your comment is addressed to me, yet in an open, public forum, so too we deserve the respect to be addressed and offered open and public discourse.

Folks who have never used, say a DMR or M8 have made plainly expressed comments about these devices, even if without evidence. This kind of debate will likely persist. Folks may make comments contradicting what you have found and communicated in pieces available on your site. That you knew Rex already subscribed is unimportant. That he is an "early adopter" to your site and writings even less so.

With respect to this thread, and Bill--the author, although prompted by what he had read in a piece on your site, his post was about the IR filter and how to determine which side of the glass was the IR cut coating, and which the multi-coat treatment. Interestingly, you replied of what you'd once read and how one might determine this. That was a helpful reminder, and addressed the discussion directly and openly. Thanks.

rgds,

Dave

I simply want to echo Bill's sentiments at the top of this thread: Reid Reviews is the best $30 I have ever spent, photographically-speaking, looking at my two camera bags with their equipment...

The other inexpensive-but-excellent item would be Gary Fong's "Lightsphere II" for an external flash. Makes all the other diffusers look pretty ordinary.

Thanks Sean!

P.S., completely O.T., are you excited about the Sigma DP1?/ I want one—same size , believe it or not, as the Ricoh GR!

Thanks Kit. I'll test the DP1, to be sure. I'm not excited about it right but I'm curious. The sensor is interesting to me, the rest of the camera (having not yet worked with it) less so.

Cheers,

Sean
