Hi,

I made some pictures with my good old Leica CLux 2 and whilst taking the pictures, the battery went out of charge. Then I put the Simcard in a cardreader, attached it to my computer and found all the pictueres damaged (see image attached), also the older ones, that were ok in former times.

What happened?

Do I need a new simcard or is it ok, to reformat it?

I tried to repair the images with picture rescue, but it didn't work.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Rolf

Rodolfo,

if you do not reformat your card before saving more pictures to it, you could still get bad results that would make you think your card is at fault (which could also be of course).

Using a camera 'till the battery drops dead is not advisable, as this not only could affect the last picture but also make havoc with the card FAT and result in loosing all of its content. It depends on where it was writing when the juice ended, just as a sudden power loss might trash the hard disk of your computer.

We should also take into account that old batteries have a faster discharge, thus often preventing any built-in safeties to work, so if your battery is as old as the camera, the best suggestion is to get a new one. Even better is to get a spare battery, so that you're not tempted to squeeze its power to the last drop.

I know this cannot help you now, but it could help avoid the same problem in the future...
