Adarsha Posted September 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today my M7 arrived! I bought an M9 making the move from DSLR to rangefinder. Reading the forum, and falling in love with the M9 I realised I was missing film, so looked for a second hand M... yesterday I found a great deal on eBay and the lovely man I bought the M7 from posted it straight away, along with an Artist and Artisan leather half case and Jonathan Eastlands User Guide, it arrived early this morning and... oh my.. what a lovely lovely camera. First test film is in and I'm away... I'm in raptures! How could anyone NOT want to shoot with both digital and 35mm with such great Leica's ?? Blissed out and skint! aymoon Posted September 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2010 Very glad to hear it... I hope you have lots of fun using your new gear. I'm looking forward to joining you tomorrow when I hope to pick up my M9 and MP. Can't wait!! oh, and I'll be skint too. Ha!
Adarsha Posted September 14, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted September 14, 2010 Well you know I'd rather live off eggs, potatoes and cheese for weeks, rather than go without being able to take photographs. Skint is not so bad as long as there is money for diesel to get out and about, and film for the M7 ! Besides if I starve for a while I may lose a few pounds in weight. Enjoy your new cameras tomorrow, an M9 and an MP wow! it'll be a fab fab day for you tomorrow!
jplomley Posted September 14, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2010 Congrats on your purchase of a great camera. I originally sold an M6 to help fund an M8. Had the M8 for a year and decided I missed B&W film so much I picked up an M7. Absolutely loved the M7 but also wanted to shoot chrome film (I love projection on the Pradovit RTm with the 90mm Super ColorPlan Pro), so I bought a second M7. Than the M9 came along...alas, full frame digital. So with a pair of M7s, an M8, and an M9 I'm all set. I would say my ratio of film:digital is roughly 1:1. In actual use, I prefer the film M. Something magical about hearing that cloth shutter and the overall flow required to advance the film. Plus it just "feels" like a real camera. Have never really bonded with any digital camera. Hard to fall in love with something that is destined for the bin in five years time. I prefer long term relationships.
aymoon Posted September 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 14, 2010 Agreed with both of you. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer to get a similar smile on my face. Am selling my home which will fund the M System (that's not the only reason I'm selling btw. honest guvnor!). Still waiting for lawyers to get their act together... I shoot way more digital than film, purely due to cost and convenience. But if you asked me which of my photos I like the most, I'd choose 10 film shots for every 1 digital. Easily. Mmm interesting, I confess I don't know what you mean by 'projection on the Pradovit RTm with the 90mm Super ColorPlan Pro' ... but I'd love to know/find out more if you have any link you could share to enlighten me that would be fantastic. I love new things, and experimenting. Digital is the way many of us have gone since probably around 2000, but film is something quite different, you are right it's the way it feels. . and the waiting for the results is half the fun. The excitement of looking at the photographs for the first time is unparalleled. Feel like a kid again... opening presents. @ aymoon, aw the wait will be well worth it. To be honest I've only been able to move to M Leica system as I had a small inheritance from my mother. Thought I'd put it to good use! Lawyers seem to like hanging on to house sale money and getting the interest in the meantime! hmm your day will come, hang in there!

It is essentially a projector for slides - and a really fine tool it is, if you do decide to go that way. I also have the official "Leica Projection" brochure (in pdf) - PM me if you are interested. Adarsha Posted September 14, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted September 14, 2010 @ aesop, thank you for the link, I'm going to check out the slide stuff, never really thought about using slide to be honest, but could be very interesting. @ rubenkok, thank you I'm really chuffed with my M7. The content on my website has been taken using Nikon digital. As I get more into the M system I will be updating it. Only had my Leica M9 for about a week, and the M7 today. cheewai_m6 Posted September 16, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 16, 2010 congrats! i've been shooting film on the m6, and shooting digital on a d90, everyone, including people who aren't into photography, say the film photos are nicer. for me, it's more enjoyable to shoot film as well. i enjoy unloading and loading film on a leica m, it's fun. so have fun with your m7. Adarsha Posted September 16, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted September 16, 2010 Enjoy your excellent combo, Adarsha - it looks like you now have the best of both worlds! Hey hey YES, I sort of missed film after years of using it, then moving to digital. I totally agree, it's like Yin and Yang, the balance, a little of both is just what's needed. Brilliant! Enjoy...
