fotografr Posted January 8, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Question: I have a Ridata 4GB SD card that I had planned to use with the M8. It is not, however, listed as one of the cards compatible with the camera. A statement on the package the card came in reads, "Ridata SD Pro memory cards deliver the industry's highest level of read/write performance and are compatible with digital cameras and other digital devices featuring the SD slot." Â Even though it is not one of the cards listed for the M8, is there any reason for me to not try it? My first Nikon and Canon digitals also came with lists of "approved" memory cards, however, the list was by no means complete and it turned out any card I put in them, up to the size limit, worked just fine. fotografr Posted January 8, 2007 Author Share #2 Â Posted January 8, 2007 Please disregard, as I have sent the card back and obtained a couple that are listed as compatible.
LJL Posted January 8, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 8, 2007 Sorry to hear, Brent. I had posted/responded on this topic several times in the past. I have two of the Ridata 4GB SD cards that I have been using in my M8 without issue since first week in November. They, along with the Transcend 4GB SD cards work fine, from what I can tell. Until Leica makes the M8 SDHC compatible, these may be your only 4GB options to use. Â LJ

Oh well, it's still good to know so I can always re-order them in the future.
arthury Posted January 9, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 9, 2007 Technically, I doubt it will do any harm to the camera but you cannot hold Leica more accountable for an SD card that's not in the list: i.e. it was not tested by Leica with the M8 after all. Â The more important thing to be leery about are the write-speeds claimed in the specs of the brands that aren't the industry leaders. I would take those with a grain of salt.
