DaveEP Posted January 8, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to experiment a little with IR photography on the M8. Â Can some one recommend 'good' IR filters for this purpose (as opposed to the blocking 486 filters!).... Â Has any one messaed around with this at all? What were your results like? reprobit Posted January 8, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 8, 2007 I did with an old Leica IR filter. Have a look at http://www.fotomoto.de  Bernd
fotografr Posted January 8, 2007 Share #3  Posted January 8, 2007 I did with an old Leica IR filter. Have a look at Wilkommen bei fotomoto - Digitale Fotografie und Highend-Reproduktionen mitten in Hessen Bernd  The amount of dirt on that sensor is frightening. Are others having that much of a problem?

Can some one recommend 'good' IR filters for this purpose (as opposed to the blocking 486 filters!)....  Has any one messaed around with this at all? What were your results like?  Here are some shots I did a few days ago on a flight between Cleveland and Washington, D.C. I used an old Leitz IR filter (someone may know if there is a Wratten # equivalent), size 39mm, on a Summicron 50. I set inf on the f/8 DOF mark as a guestimate for the focus shift. IS0 = 640. I used the TTL meter but in manual mode. The horizontal shot with the mountains has very obvious flare from the window (some in the others too). Other shots from the same shoot resulted in the horizontal band, which I previously posted: see link 83 http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/12797-new-band-firmware-bug-3.html?highlight=band Tom

It is very clearly grease spots from a new shutter.Swabbing required. 100 shots will clear it and you will only have "normal" dust.
