j. borger Posted January 7, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted January 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since my M8 is back to Solms for "the fix" i got back to the R-D1 for a couple of days now........ as it is my only back-up , But after 8 weeks shooting the M8, without touching the R-D1, picking it up again feels like a giant step backwards ......... the files simply do not compare in quality. For reference: i shot the R-D1 for 2 years almost daily with great joy and with great satisfaction ........ the M8 changed this however!

Riley Posted January 7, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted January 7, 2007 This has to win the award for most pointless thread ever. Give the man a prize! Â an M8 ? Â uh oh...
earleygallery Posted January 7, 2007 Share #23  Posted January 7, 2007 I was thinking more like an IR filter  Didn't mean to be rude but "disgusted (which is quite an emotional word) with the M8 but I'm going to buy an M8 so there, what have you got to say about that" is pretty piontless.  Buy it use it an post some photos. Or if you really are disgusted then just stick with what you have!!!!!
arthury Posted January 7, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted January 7, 2007 Tom,Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Opel and VW seem to be doing very well despite the insurgence of Japanese cars. It therefore doesn't seem reasonable to assume that Leica is doomed in the face of increasing sales of Japanese and Korean cameras. Pete. Â Let's not get into the auto industry ... they are a different beast ... BMW's latest 335i (yes, the one with the twin turbo) is designed to use a Mitsubishi turbo charger. And, yes, they are shipped with a Mitsubishi turbo charger. I don't think there are any parts in the M8 that's made in Japan or China, are there? Oooops ... I see eggs, stones, and bottles flying my way ...

Cruewell Posted January 12, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted January 12, 2007 I am surprised you had to leave a deposit for the camera since there's so much demand. Over here, you're asked for a deposit when there's a chance you will not want the merchandise and it'll be hard to sell if so happens. But M8's are selling pretty well. Â I asked for mine today, I said "want a deposit?" and the salesman said "no" with a huge smile, I checked his M8 order book, there were 31 names out of which only 5 were crossed, so still 26 customers to get their cameras before me, the salesman noticed my skeptical look and said, unasked: "we are getting 7 tomorrow, 10 more in a week, and yours should arrive with the next batch". And an M8 is not an easy camera to sell in Madrid, Spain. Â Anyway, I'm sure you'll cheer up as soon as you lay your hands on it! Happy (late) New Year from Spain! jonoslack Posted January 13, 2007 Share #27 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for being so nice about about a silly, worthless thread. Â Tom Hi Tom I don't think it's silly and worthless. I understand your grief - my camera is at Solms being 'fixed' for problems which occurred in maybe 10 of the 4000 shots I made. Â All I can say is be patient, and when you get your camera, mine will be looking decidedly used!
jaapv Posted January 13, 2007 Share #28  Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for being so nice about about a silly, worthless thread.  Tom  Don't worry about it Tom, psychologists tell us the best thing to do with frustrations is to vent them . Seriously, this kind of sincere post expressing the feelings of Leica-lovers is far preferable to the senseless, malicious and parroting Leica-bashing we have seen over the last months. tashley Posted January 13, 2007 Share #29  Posted January 13, 2007 Disgusted (sorry about the above spelling)  I will probably be stoned by the faithful forum folks, but in any case these are my opinions.  I have been shooting with a Leica M6,M7 for years, and have enjoyed it for a few reasons. the lenses of the Leica are the best. The size of the rangefineder camera fits my neeeds perfectly, and I have become use to the way it feels in hand. If it wasn't for these things I would tell Leica to take the new M8 snd stick it in a dark place. I have not had the honor of spending close to five thousand dollars because my dealer has not come to my name on the list yet, so he now has had my deposit for three months.  I almost feel like a sucker to take mine when Leica can send enough cameras so that one matches my name on the list. It just seems to accept one knowing before getting it that their are some defects in the camera that should be fixed and not just with a filter. Further, I don't like any glass over my lenses because it does take something away from it's quality. I have never used filters for that reason.  I am shooting mainly now with two digital camers, RD1 Epson, and the Canon D5. Neither camera came with knowing defects, and both cameras work well. I find the Canon D5 photographs to be outstnding and the lens quality is just fine. The detail in the photographs are really sharp. I just wish Lecia could get their act together, and that they would keep us informed on what is going on. First, the cameras are not coming in quanity, and nothing further has been said about fixes. It is not a strong well run company today, and I am aftraid they are heading in the wrong direction. The Japanese have taken over the digital world as they have done with cars, so the question is what is the future for Leica? I guess I have seen too many good traditional businesses die because they could not change to compete with the world as it is today. It is a shame becuse I like my Leica's, and I want my M8, and I want to be a fan, but I sure am having a hard time, so toss those stones I can handle them  Tom   After ten months with a 5D and two months with an M8, I know, for sure, which is 'better' (for me). The M8 wins hands down. I keep the 5D for extreme low light, the odd sports shot and a bit of macro. That's it. And 95% of the people I have come across who have actually used both feel the same. Buy it. You'll do more than just like it.  Tim
