srivastava Posted August 15, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was thinking of buying a GF1 with the pan 20mm lens after selling my DMC L1 Body ( great camera but bulky for everyday use). However, I love the leica zoom lens and want to keep it. The Panasonic website says that this lens is only compatible with the Olympus micro 4/3.....is this true? http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/l1k.html
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Hi srivastava, Take a look here Leica 14-50mm lens on GF1 body - compatible? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
philipotto Posted August 15, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2010 As far as I know, it will work, but you will need a 4/3 to micro 4/3 adapter.
dugby Posted August 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 16, 2010 Sorry to say but the standard 14-50mm D Vario-Elmarit from the D3 and also L1, when placed on a micro 4/3 body via the appropriate 4/3 to micro 4/3 adapter, will be of limited use. I recall it will only manually focus and I suspect the aperature control may be manual only, too. As you know manual focus on an EVT is not great fun.... I also have this great lens, and was thinking about getting the GF1, but feel a bit shattered when I discovered the "partial" compatibility of this superb lens with micro 4/3. Are you sure that is the case? Somebody correct me if I am wrong but.....The Leica lens is a 4/3 lens and the DMW-MA1 adapter gives supposedly full functionality with all 4/3 lenses so I don't see why it wouldn't work. The only thing is that the aperture ring should be set to A and aperture is controlled from camera, just like using this lens on an Olympus SLR which I have done. It's a big chunk of glass to put on a small body though.

dermk4 Posted August 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 21, 2010 Take my word for it, I tried the Vario-Elmarit 14-50 2.8-4.5 on all all m43 bodies, it works on G1, GF1, GH1 with DMW-MA1 but limited to MF only. This lens can do AF on G2 and Olympus m43s, but at a speed intolerable to most. The 14-150 is more than fine, though.
