Hello Bill,

- Click on the raw file of the photo you want to convert

- select "workflow" in the menu

- select "show colormanagement settings"

- the window color management settings pops-up ..... select one of the JFI labs profiles in the selection field labeled "Camera"

Hi J. Thanks for the response.

I did as you suggested, but now the picture in the center screen of C1 is locked up. I can't wb, crop, etc.

I reset but that didn't help.

I am confused.

I'm wandering thru the downloaded manual, now.

OK, I got it!

Here's my first JFI b/w conversion (not a lot of detail for upload).

Original is RAW, at 2500, 1/250, 24mm f2.8 asph @ 2.8.

Simple conversion, no noise reduction or anything else.

The one above was "std" b/w. this one is Red #1. A little more luminescence in it.

Again JFI b/w profiles, rest as above.

Good to see it worked out ......looks good Bill:)

I do B&W almost exclusively and this is all i use for B&W ......... red and orange filters will always result in noisier images at high iso.

Thanks, J.

I agree about the noise and I customarily use Neat Image for every digineg.

I do not, however, use sharpening at this time. As much as I have been able to play with it (what I said about the day job ... ) I still am dissatisfied with the edge artifacts.

I really like the "roundness" that noise reduction give me.

And this camera *Really* rocks!

Regards,

BTW, the original problem was, of course, Operator Head Space Error.

I do my own uploading and archiving using directory processes, and I always (what a dangerous word) move the jpeg's to a subdirectory so they don't get mixed up with the RAW's.

Of course, I blew it. And, I am permitting jpeg's to be seen by C1 -- because it would never (another dangerous word) be a problem.

When I reoriented the directories properly, the images were, of course, able to be touched. It just took me a while to realize that I could not manipulate a stupid jpeg.

The beginning of the learning curse is so damn steep!

My thanks to all, as usual.

OK! Here's a "chrome" using Jamie's profile. What intensity it lends to the image.

There is a palpable presence to the dancers.

Thanks Jamie for providing these profiles.

Thanks J for the suggestions about looking further for the correct profiles.

Bill:

I am a bit confused by your +1 exposure. Does it mean you are adjusting C1 so the exposure is +1 or are you using a +1 exposure compensation in the camera.

If you are using +1 in C1, you are underexpsoing your shots by a stop and your noise would be much less by dropping the shutter speed one stop.

Bill

Can you use the JFI b-w profiles with C1 LE or do you need the C1 Pro version

Thanks

Judy

By the way. opnce the JFI profiles are in the proper folder they are available to and work well with Raw Developer as well as C1. The results look very close to each other after processing. This is good news to me because I prefer Raw Developer to C1 in their current incarnations.

Robert, I am adding 1.0 exposure in C1

Judy, I am using LE. I do plan to buy the pro version, but am getting my feet wet.

I just worked on a bunch of pictures from this shoot and will now go back and try Jamie's profiles on the shots.

It turns out to be pretty straightforward, even for this newby to C1. I agree with Sean's and other's statements, it's really intuitive.

I wish that I could invoke Neat Image from inside.

I'll post more after working on this shoot this weekend -- with noise reduction, this time.

Thanks again to all for the assistance.

Bill--I'm happy to know you got the JPEG / C1 / profile step worked out! They're some of the stumbling blocks in C1, which is a wonderful program once you wrap your brain around it!

Thanks for the kind words on the profile, too. I believe I might even have some new ones soon...:)

Looking forward to them Jamie ........ your profiles make all the diference using the M8 for color.

Thanks again for all the efforts and sharing the results!

If you are adding a stop in C1, it means you are under exposing, or really shooting a 5000iso.

Unfortunately, there is no iso 5000 on the M8, and I need 1/250 for stop-motion. I did not try -EV because I have not yet learned to use it.

At the time, I only had an IR-cut filter for the 24mm lens -- f2.8 is the fastest.

Neat Image fixes the grain to my satisfaction.

This hi-speed digital is not all it's cracked up to be.
