colorflow Posted January 5, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought my M8 in mid-Nov. Since then many issues have been uncovered and the current hardware and firmware updates address a large portion of the problems. However, new, though lesser, problems have been and are being uncovered. Wondering whether future fixes of current known remaining problems will likely require sending in the camera again? Should I wait a while for more fixes? Another consideration - is Leica being swamped now? Will turn-around time be shorter if I waited? Really hate to part with it for a lengthy period. Â Would appreciate all your thoughts. Thanks, Alan
Advertisement Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Hi colorflow, Take a look here Should I wait before sending my M8 in for update?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
khanosu Posted January 5, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Hi Alan, Â If I were you I would wait a bit before sending the camera in. I would at least wait until Leica has decided what they intend to do with the newer (albeit less serious) issues. You will get the IR cut filters by February in any case and that will take care of a major issue with gen.1 camera. Also Leica must be swamped right now; your camera will probably get better attention later and also it will possibly have a shorter stay in Germany. Â Good luck in your decision! carstenw Posted January 5, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 5, 2007 Leica is totally swamped. It took me two months to get mine back. I would hold off for a while and just enjoy the camera. Get an IR filter for your favorite lens.
j. borger Posted January 5, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 5, 2007 ............ It took me two months to get mine back.,,,,,,,,,,,. Â Unacceptable! Â They should not make so many phone-calls to pick up cameras if they can't guarantee the 10-14 days turnaround they promissed. I already regret having mine picked up january 2nd and did not hold off.......... because i mis the camera terrible!
carstenw Posted January 5, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 5, 2007 I did send mine there before they even knew how to fix it, because my focusing was off, so that extended the time significantly. I don't imagine that this will be the average time, maybe just the longest time. Still, if I were making the decision today, I would wait until things calm down a bit. I sent my R 35-70 Elmarit in for repair and Leica N.J. sent it to Solms as they are the only service facility with parts for this magnificent lens. That was three months ago. I was informed yesterday that the lens should be repaired on one more week and I should receive it in two weeks. Â I would say that they really are swamped. marknorton Posted January 7, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The courier did not collect my camera at the expected time last week and I've decided not to pursue it until the latest banding issue is clearer. khanosu Posted January 7, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 7, 2007 Good decision Mark. I would wait at least until they decide what to do with the edge banding issue. Â Furrukh
