mob81 Posted August 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought an M2 and want to send it for CLA "prefer in Europe". However, I don't want to wait for over a month unless I have to. Please any experience with leica techs from Europe with the contact info would be appreciate it. Also I'd like to ask if it's possible to repaint it to make it better cosmetically! "just like to know" Thanks

topoxforddoc Posted August 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2010 Repaint in Europe - CRR in Luton, UK - who also do all Leica repairs CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND Waiting time is usually 3-4 months, although work is done quickly once you're at the head of the queue. I don't know of anyone else in Europe who does repaints (remember to do it properly, you have to strip it down, strip off the chrome, paint, oven bake, re-assemble and adjust RF etc). I don't think you'll find anyone anywhere who can do all this in less than a month.

So more than a month is not acceptable for me in this time. Thanks for the replay.
Marty Posted August 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2010 A bit obvious but: Leica CS are only a phonecall away. I believe there is such as thing as expedited service (at a cost). Won't hurt to ask what it takes to do your camera in less than a month.
earleygallery Posted August 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2010 Also contact some dealers nearish to you - most dealers have their own contacts for repair specialists. Red Dot have someone I think, no idea what their workload is like of course but its worth a try. I wouldn't suggest sending the M2 to Leica, when I asked for a quote they said it'd be approx £400 + depending on what parts were needed if any. I could only think they're so busy with warranty work now they 'overprice' quotes to deter the business.
koray Posted August 7, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 7, 2010 Malcolm Taylor in the UK was very fast with my Summicron 50 CLA. From my first call to return of the lens took not more than two weeks. He's very knowledgeable, an expert in his field, and a very friendly chap, it is well worth giving him a call. Cheers, K. rhysgill Posted August 23, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 23, 2010 Another vote for Malcolm Taylor in the UK. Having spoken with the gentleman by phone I visited him with my M6 for a 'full' service. Took less than 2 weeks and a brilliant job. The only problem was that when I went to collect it I ended up also buying a mint 28mm Elmarit he had !!! The camera has served me well since purchase new 15 years ago and I felt it deserved a bit of TLC in Malcolm's hands.. should now see me out... (at least another 15 years I hope ! ) I know he is able to code lens for M8 data etc and also re coat. He may also be able to paint body work. Dyfrig.
